Must there be a Record Store Day? “…it’s no stretch to say its real purpose is to boost profits for struggling retailers in a time when most people snub brick and mortar stores in favour of cheap online deals. And that’s why it’s a terrible idea.”

Jack White‘s always-ambitious Third Man Records announced today (April 6) that they have no plans to take it easy on Record Store Day 2015, which this year falls on April 18.

“XL Records owner Richard Russell has teamed up with reggae pioneer Lee Scratch Perry for a truly unique release…Accompanying a new track produced by Russell on their website (listen here) is a message explaining the unique delivery method – and how the track came to be at Perry’s studio in Switzerland.”

Documentary starts Record Store Day: The Rock Bottom Brew Pub will convert its spacious Civil War era, flour mill/tap room into a makeshift theater for the evening while offering its full line of craft beers from around the Midwest region. Known for vinyl night celebrations, Dave and Jen Brown, of the Rock Island Public House, welcomed the opportunity.

Real Groovy, Record Store Day Update and schedule: “In support of two new vinyl releases on the Real Groovy Records label, The Cleves aka Bitch will play at 2pm and Larry’s Rebels at 5pm, with a signing session following each set.”
