Patti Smith Guitarist Lenny Kaye Subbing for Smith at Record Store Day Announcement Event: It was announced recently that Patti Smith and Doors drummer John Densmore would be serving as panelists at a March 8 press conference in New York City at which the 2016 Record Store Day campaign’s special releases will be revealed, but Smith has now canceled her appearance at the event. In her place, Patti’s longtime guitarist, Lenny Kaye, will be joining Densmore.

The looming superannuation of the compact disc. Declining paid MP3 downloads, and puny licensing income from the streaming services that are replacing them. Amid this wreckage, one line item stands out. It reads “LP.” It stands for “long play”, the analogue vinyl album that has been around since 1948. After bottoming out at approximately zero per cent of industry revenues in 2001, this segment has been growing.
