Watch Brian Eno explore John Peel’s record collection: “A lot of things that I listened to and had a big influence on me, I first heard on John Peel.” …Ahead of the lecture, legendary ambient producer Brian Eno went to Peel Acres to dig around John Peel’s magnificent archive. Vinyl is Everywhere, even in Port Townsend!: “The biggest thing I want to get across is that we’re doing this for fun,” Hering explained during a caffeine-fueled morning chat in Quimper Sound. “It’s a great community event in a great community. The record buying public here is also great. So it’s a win-win. That way, we keep the money in the community.

Digital natives still yearn for an analogue life: The latest figures from the Recording Industry Association of America are out. As ever, they stink. Zero top-line revenue growth. The looming superannuation of the compact disc. Declining paid MP3 downloads, and puny licensing income from the streaming services that are replacing them. Amid this wreckage, one line item stands out. It reads “LP.” It stands for “long play”, the analogue vinyl album that has been around since 1948. After bottoming out at approximately zero per cent of industry revenues in 2001, this segment has been growing.
