We Spoke To Some Independent Record Store Bosses About Sainsbury’s Being The UK’s Biggest Seller Of Vinyl: Honestly, how can they have eight percent of the market share of vinyl? It’s nonsense. I can’t see on the limited range of stock that they carry that that can possibly be correct. I find it very strange that they’ve gone from zero involvement in vinyl to then stocking vinyl and cornering eight percent of market, all within a matter of months. How could they get and verify those figure in that amount of time?

Vinyl Mania Can’t Save the Greenwich Village Record Stores: While record store closings seem as inevitable as newspaper downsizings these days, June has proved to be an especially cruel month in New York. Rebel Rebel’s closing, set for June 30, will follow the shuttering of another cherished Village sonic emporium, Other Music, on the 25th. Two other Village music stores have died in the last two years: Bleecker Bob’s and Kim’s Music and Video. In the same period, Bleecker Street Records was forced from its longtime home on the street for which it was named to cheaper quarters at 188 West Fourth Street.

Rare Prince Promo Vinyl Is Most Expensive Discogs Sale Ever: A 1987 double 12” DJ version of The Black Album, not released officially until 1994, sold for $15,000: The Black Album was released in 1994. It was initially scheduled to come out in 1987 as the follow-up to Sign “O” the Times, with promos even being sent to clubs and DJs. Shortly before release, however, Prince decided to shelve the album, going so far as having those promos destroyed. Still, some managed to hold onto the record, making this double 12” DJ version of The Black Album extremely rare.

5 Hard-to-Find Horror Soundtracks in Need of a Vinyl Re-release: When done well, a musical score for a horror film can be just as effective as the visuals on the screen. If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that we currently live in an era when special edition, limited edition, and newly restored releases of horror and cult films are hot. Red hot. Companies like Vinegar Syndrome, Shout! Factory, Arrow Films, Kino Lorber, Olive Films, Synapse Films, and others are investing their time and money into breathing new life into films that, over the years, have become challenging to track down and are worthy of the restorative &/or making-of treatment.
