Cedar Rapids welcomes a new record store to New Bo: Cedar Rapids recently got its first new independent record store since CD Warehouse closed in 2007. Named Analog Vault, it’s in a former bank located in the heart of the thriving New Bohemia area. In the weeks leading up to it’s Oct. 28 grand opening, word-of-mouth spread the news among the vinyl record addicts in town like wildfire. We spoke to one of the partners in this venture, Chris Morris.

Lancashire recommends… record stores: Action Records has been established since 1979, starting off on a stall in Blackpool just as the independent music scene was emerging. From there owner Gordon Gibson soon opened a site in Church Street, Preston, where it has been ever since. As a member of specialist independent chains; the store has access to limited editions and special offers including quantity on all Record Store Day releases. Action Records has also established its own record label, releasing records by bands such as The Boo Radleys, Dandelion Adventure, Big Red Bus, Genocides, Tompaulin, Fi-Lo Radio, Monkey Steals The Drum amongst others. Its biggest project so far has been with The Fall and Mark E Smith as a solo performer.

The world’s best record shops #043: Piccadilly Records, Manchester: Founded in the same year as Factory Records, Piccadilly established itself amid one of the most fiercely creative periods in the UK’s, let alone Manchester’s, musical history. An outlet for the burgeoning post-punk scene led by Joy Division, A Certain Ratio and OMD, the shop prospered throughout the ’80s before current co-owners Philippa Jarman, Darryl Mottershead, and Laura Kennedy took over and brought the shop to its current location in the buzzing Northern Quarter.

Listening Clubs Tantalize Audiophiles in London: LONDON — One Sunday evening in September, the main hall of a community center here was decked out with ribbons, balloons and a gyrating disco ball that marked a sonic sweet spot — the optimal position for partygoers to enjoy the clean, punchy (and not too loud) sound of five towering speakers arranged strategically around the room, piping a playlist of pop, funk, rock and dance floor gems for all generations. The Lucky Cloud sound system was in town. Following the lead of a cult party series created by the D.J. and impresario David Mancuso in 1970s New York, the organizers prioritize audio quality above all else.

Charleston Record Fair comes to The Royal American: Record dealers from throughout the Southeast will assemble at the Royal American (970 Morrison Drive) on Sat.
