The Dollyrots/ The Obvious/ I Hope You Die This Sunday In AP!

The Dollyrots

If you’re anything like me, you’re still trying to figure out how to make it in a grown up world as a perpetual adolescent. Every artist knows the trick is to work the least for the most pay. Since I can’t bring myself to write terrible songs for lots of money ( and besides, so many other people are doing that so well right now) I’ve got to use my assets and skill sets to beat this thing. Stripping? The Black Market? Maybe Charlie Sheen needs a new goddess?

Oh boyzees, until I figure out this whole work money system and how I’m gonna beat it, I guess I’ll just escape to my favorite nation, the nation of Rock. I have a map, some supplies, and my trusty bandmates along with me, and there’s room for you too if you’re looking for a complete and easy escape to an alternate, parallel universe.

This weekend I will knock out the guards, slip through the bars and run wild until they figure out I’m missing and come catch me and lock me up again. Apparently I’ve got quite the reputation for being dangerous to society. Well I say, society is dangerous to me. Harrupmh.

Me and my band, The Obvious have the privilege of sharing the stage with some other rollicking awesome broads when we play The Asbury Lanes this Sunday, June 5th. It’s awful nice to play with some ladies, because right now in this scene and in the mainstream at large, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of us rock out with your frock out frontgirls around.

I thank god for Marisa P. of Screaming Females, Tara Elliot of Tara Elliot & The Red Velvets and Shannon Perez of I Hope You Die, cuz I love my rock boys, but sometimes it’s like being trapped in a car with your younger brothers or some terrible blind date. It’s not easy being me, readers! Haw haw. 😀

Speaking of Ms. Perez, she will be gracing the stage with her latest act, I Hope You Die this Sunday and I’m really looking forward to not only sharing a bill with this intense and super fun altrawk act, but watching Shannon (Bass/Guitar/Vox) and her trusty gang of merry men (Patrick Clark-Lead Guitar/ Ken Ryan-guitar,smokes,anxiety/ Tony Scandiffio-drums, Jim Beam, pizzacore) as they wield their equal opportunity influenced sound ( Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, The Ramones, The Stooges) with some serious precision and vivid vistas.

As Shannon puts it, “…kinda sounds like Sleater Kinney getting lured into bed by Ryan Adams while Neko Case smokes a joint and watches it all.” (Is that the 3some Britney was talking about?)

I Hope You Die

And I’m also pleased to announce that the LA based nationally touring act The Dollyrots will be headlining the night as they take a break from their current tour with The Go-Go’s. ( Go-Go’s Fun Fact: Back in the day the girls used to play a game called Corner Cleaners to break tour boredom—one would dare the another to lick the corner of a public bathroom—and they’d DO IT! And they took home groupie fellas a few times. Sounds good to me!).

At it for a decade now, The Dollyrots have a hefty-yet-sweet pop power punk sound that boasts catchy songwriting, a healthy dose of hooky guitar lines, sugary vocals, and fistfuls of confetti. Led by founders Kelly Ogden (vocals, bass) and Luis Cabezas (guitar) with Chris Black on drums, the band now has a home on Joan Jett’s own Blackheart Records, and after one listen it’s easy to hear why.

The Dollyrots are doing a fine job of carrying the torch from the last generation of female fronted rock acts like aforementioned Godmother Joan Jett of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. I’m also both relieved and thrilled to see that foremother stateswomen of rock like Joan Jett & The Go-Go’s have made sure to be inclusive of the women who rock today, as corporate labels, for one reason or another, seemed to have forgotten that we exist. (Where is this generation’s Chrissie Hynde? Patti Smith? Bonnie Raitt? I’m no conspiracy theorist, but that’s a little odd, no?)

And but of course my band, The Obvious, will be Bringing Wreck, so wear your hard hats and protective gear, and don’t come dressed all fancy because I have been known to tear a shirt or two off of unsuspecting, but extremely grateful, male fans.

The Obvious | Don’t Match

If you haven’t heard about The Obvious by now, all I can say is get ready to devote your life to getting as close to us as possible, because cult-following does not even begin to describe it. And stop asking me for my shoes and unwashed underpants, because it’s just getting weird, honestly.

Come on out and rock out with your respective cocks and frocks out this Sunday June 5th for this very special rock experience. Get dignified, baptized, electrified, sanctified, magnified, and feel ALIVE when you see what the faces of real rock and roll look like when I Hope You Die, The Obvious and The Dollyrots get all up in yo bizness. And definitely buy me a beer. All this rockin’ is hard work!

XOXO!
