Colorado Top Shelf: Boom Chick at Moe’s Original Bar B Que, 10/29

Colorado and I are finally on the same wavelength. At least when it comes to music. Specifically, bringing in the music of Frank Hoier and Moselle Spiller of Boom Chick

Fresh-faced old souls Frank Hoier (Guitar/ Vocals) and Moselle Spiller (Drums) bring a contemporary elegance to their early American-rock inspired sound. The duo is giving a complimentary touch to the Colorado music scene this weekend in one extremely stylish and talented package

Book of Mormon:
So Wrong It’s… No, It’s Still Wrong and Funny as Hell

Sure, you can spend your nights listening to classical music, or crying yourself to sleep to the Les Miserables soundtrack, and probably score some points for you sensitive side. Where’s the fun in that? The fun, my friends, resides in the highly offensive, absurdly hilarious The Book of Mormon.

If you don’t know, The Book of Mormon is the brainchild of Denver’s favorite delinquents, South Park’s Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Oh boys, thank you so much for creating this freak of nature. The music could still make you cry at night, but from choking, as you try and catch your breath between laughing fits.

TVD Ticket Giveaway: Animal Collective at Merriweather Post Pavillion, 7/9

TVD is offering a little free therapy. Our recommendation? Experimental hypnosis; allowing yourself to fall under the spell of Animal Collective. They will be performing at Merriweather Post Pavillion, along with Black Dice and Deradoorian, next weekend, Saturday, July 9th. It is the perfect remedy to remind everyone that summer is all about fun, and we are giving away a pair of lawn tickets to the show.

You have to respect four best friends from Baltimore that love to have a good time, and make a living off of it. Animal Collective is everything their name suggests: partiers with the freedom and power to pretty much do whatever they want, which definitely shows in their music with their unique, exploratory sound.

Therefore, it only makes sense that the uncompromising Black Dice would be one of the openers to give the audience a taste of their very own brand of bizarre.

Angel Deradoorian, the multi-instrumentalist and vocalist of Dirty Projectors, will be gracing the stage as well, dosing the audience with some indie sizzle.

So let your hair down, sway to the music, and get a little wild. With your girl.

I don’t mean
To seem like I care about material things,
Like our social status,
I just want
Four walls and adobe slabs
For my girls.

For a chance to win your pair of tickets, just tell us, in the comment box below, your favorite song about a girl(s). I am going to have to call the obvious, Mötley Crüe’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” and the less obvious, (RIP) MJ’s “Billie Jean.”

Deadline to enter is Friday (7/1), at noon.

TVD Ticket Giveaway: Def Leppard with special guest Heart at Jiffy Lube Live, 7/9

You may want to sit down for this. Def Leppard is performing at Jiffy Lube Live, with special guest Heart, Saturday, July 9th, and TVD has got its hands on a pair of Pavilion Tickets. Although it was hard—it was seriously tempting to take them and run—we are willing to part with the pair for an unbelievable ticket giveaway. Enter for the chance to win a spot at perhaps one of the best shows of the summer. Don’t hesitate, just do.

I doubt I need to provide an introduction, but please excuse me a second for drooling in the ambience of the epicness that is Def Leppard. They have been rocking ladies’ panties off and giving us all a hard-on for music since 1977, and are looking forward to carrying on that tradition. In case you need a reminder, Jiffy Lube Live is the perfect venue for them to prove, as if they have to, why they reign rock supreme.

Accompanying their summer tour is the release of their live album Mirror Ball. Those screaming lunatics in the background? That could be you this July.

Mmmm “pour some sugar on me, in the name of love!”

As if that were not enough, Heart will also be giving a special performance. Ann & Nancy Wilson, the unstoppable sister duo, have also been stunning audiences for over four decades. They will be adding a feminine touch to hard rock during this monumental concert of rock ‘n’ roll legends.

“All I wanna do is make love to you.”

This concert is too delicious to pass up, so we are going to make this easy for you. To win a pair of pavilion-seat tickets, just tell us, in the comment box below, your favorite hair band love song. Besides Extreme’s “More Than Words” because TVD has already called that one in unison.

The winner will be chosen Wednesday (6/29) at noon.

TVD Vinyl Giveaway: Flogging Molly’s new Speed of Darkness

TVD is feeling generous, very generous, and is giving away Speed of Darkness, the latest record from Flogging Molly, just released a couple of weeks ago. So what are you waiting for? Take advantage and win the latest masterpiece from the unstoppable Irish punk group. You know you want to.

Since they were founded in 1997, Flogging Molly has captivated fans by instilling strength into the broken with their inspirational hard-time anthems. You can tap into this inner strength simply by plugging in a pair of headphones and letting their music pulse through you. Speed of Darkness continues the phenomenon of musical motivation, an invisible force to help you overcome life’s headaches. It’s music for the underdog. It’s music to remind you how to bark.

But most importantly, we are dealing with some seriously talented musicians.

Flogging MollyDon’t Shut ‘Em Down

“I remember my uncle had a cool basement. His father had a bar and was closing it down, so he used things you would find in a bar to set the basement up. Pool table, pinball machine, lights, bar, and a Jukebox.

I would go over and visit and love to go downstairs and hang out. One time he stocked the jukebox with all early Elvis 45’s, and I was hooked. It was free, so I would play the songs over and over again. He left those 45’s in for the longest time.

One day he changed one to a Led Zeppelin song—”Whole Lotta Love”—and I was immediately transfixed. I forgot about the Elvis 45’s and played Led Zeppelin over and over again until I was told to stop. I knew I wanted to play guitar listening to Elvis, but after hearing Led Zeppelin, I was on a mission to get a guitar.
—Casey Dennis

To win your very own copy of Speed of Darkness, tell us who has inspired you to be who you are today, or at least who you would like to be.

Since this is a bit of a cliche question, please no cliche answers… I don’t want you naming people you would list in a job interview, so scratch anyone who has won a peace prize or an ex-president, unless of course, it’s the truth. We want your honest to god, real heroes, no matter how it may reflect on your person.

My inspiration, for instance, is Hunter S. Thompson, and after having my wisdom teeth removed and popping pain killers like Pez, I think I am well on my way.

The winner will be chosen next Friday (7/1) and must have a mailing address in the continental US or Canada.

TVD Live: Going Phishing at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 6/11

A lot of kids get told bedtime stories by their parents; my dad played me the Grateful Dead. That is how I was raised, falling asleep every night to the sound of Jerry Garcia’s guitar, and the story of a sailor risking his life for the high maintenance maiden in “Terrapin Station.” The Dead are in my DNA; I didn’t have a choice.

So when there was an outbreak of Phish fanatics among my friends, I was hesitant to catch the obsession. After all, wasn’t Phish just a glorified cover band? I never really gave them a chance, which made my disdain for them easier to maintain. This wasn’t hard considering the first real song from Phish I ever heard was “Meatstick,” not exactly a lyrical masterpiece or sign of musical genius.

It wasn’t until two good friends of mine, whose taste in music I admire, started going to multiple shows a year that I caved in and bought a ticket for their show at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Saturday June 11th. I wasn’t expecting much, just a bunch of old hippies holding on to the past, playing instruments, as well as newborns slamming together mom’s pots and pans. I was half right.
