My Signed Rocky
Horror Picture Show Vinyl: “We used to call you Vinyl Queens”

In 1975, Barry Bostwick and Patricia Quinn starred in what would become the longest-running theatrical release in film history, The Rocky Horror Picture Show. On October 1st, 2011, they came to Hollywood Boulevard Cinemas in Woodridge to host showings of the cult classic.

I love The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I love everything about it. The acting, the story, the absurdity, but especially the songs. The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack was the second vinyl record that I ever purchased. I bought it used for $7.00 from Reckless Records. So when I heard that Brad and Magenta were going to be in town, I grabbed fellow Vinyl District writer Patrick, and we took off.

Amongst the loyal fans decked out in everything from fishnets to maid outfits, stood your Chicago Vinyl District writers, just taking it all in.

Once we got to the line, the whole photo/autograph package was running an intimidating $80.00. Horrified, I had to decide what was going to get the axe. Ultimately I decided the pictures had to go, and with vinyl in hand, we waited in line.

As Barry Bostwick signed “Dammit Janet” on my record, he asked if I collected vinyl and told me that “We used to call you Vinyl Queens.” I love that.

We talked for a moment, before I moved on to Patricia Quinn, whose famous lips are featured in the opening sequence to the film as well as the iconic poster.

Now, this mass-produced record has been signed by two of the people whose voices are heard on some of the most iconic tracks in the film.

These signatures add another level of awesomeness to something that I already loved. We “Vinyl Queens” are growing in numbers, and are proud of all of our favorite vinyl records and the stories that come with them.

If you have a great signed cover, or a story of your own, let us know about it!
