TVD Live! Mark Knight, the Dark Knight of Deep House, at Glow 2/3

Mark Knight brought it back to basics last Thursday night at Club Glow. The square-jawed, muscle-tee’d producer based out of London brought a nostalgic spin to partymongers at Lima in the dead of night. Knight is one of the curators of a boutique form of house called Toolroom, a glitchy, two-step rhythm that presumably comes from the eponymous record, on his very own label.

The DJ had booties shaking and the dance floor quaking.

When Knight first appeared, his opening act Pleasurekraft shut down his Macbook to make way for the dual turntable and mixer. The main floor and VIP area were packed just enough for dancers to extend their arms, jerk their knees, and whirl their arms to Knight’s cool, convulsive beats. Watching the guy spin brought back some charming memories of the heyday of Deep House.

Mark Knight effortlessly transposed my musical tastes from Venice, California to the District. From the land where the likes of Marques Wyatt brings order to the AC Supper Club, Mark Knight has succeeded in making me a curious cat eagerly awaiting more beats, vocals, and drops in the DC scene.
