Girls Rock! DC & TVD: We’re going camping, Day 4!

TVD is tagging along with Girls Rock! DC this week and sharing the Rock Star summer camp experience almost in real time.

Day #4 begins with a TICKET GIVEAWAY to Saturday’s Girls Rock! DC Camper Showcase at the 9:30 Club where our future rock stars get to show off their newly minted chops on stage at DC’s legendary venue.

In the comments to this post (and tomorrow’s GR!DC post) let us know which female rock star inspires YOU the most, and the answer that strikes a particular chord for us will win one pair of tickets to Saturday morning’s showcase. We’re choosing our winner at 5PM tomorrow, 8/12!

Now, let’s get to class!

Weekly Schedule: The second to last day of camp! But we’re not slowing down by any means, we’re actually kicking it into high gear today! Today’s theme, “Telling the World About Our Greatness” gives the girls a chance to think about how they want to express themselves and let everyone know that they are in control.

We also finish up our songs and begin to work on making our performances as amazing as can be. Add to that today’s media literacy and activism workshops to further reinforce the lesson that the future of (fill in the blank!) is in our hands!

Instrument Classes: After three days of rocking, we’re starting to see our girls really shine in instrument instruction class. Our vocalists work on their stage presence while our drummers take some time to get in sync and work on fills—they sound amazing!

Guitar students are getting more one on one instructions time to prepare for the Camper Showcase. And, the DJs develop a keen ear for what sounds good and learn how to dissect a song.

Band Photos: Judging from the way some of our girls strike a pose for the cameras, you’d never guess these amazing rock goddesses only met and formed a band three days ago! Keep an eye out at the Camper Showcase for their awesome press photos!

Band Art: Our campers found inspiration in the fabulous female wrestlers, or luchadoras, of Mexico when it came time to head to the art room to express themselves visually. Viva La Revolucion!

Signs: What better way to tell the world about your greatness than to write about it on a big giant wall?!
