Pain in the Neck: Big Neck & Windian Records at Marcatus

Here is the last day of Pain in the Neck on The Vinyl District, highlighting Big Neck Records. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read about us and our little label. Hope you have enjoyed. We are super excited for this Sunday’s upcoming festivities. Sunday, Sunday, Sunday!

Besides The Big Neck/Windian Mini-Fest, the Marcatus Art Market in Yards Park (10 Water Street SE, Washington, DC) will have DJs, food, beer, and some very, very cool art being sold in a great location. So come on down and spend the day with all of us. I promise you won’t be sorry you did it.

For our final spotlight, we have The Electricutions, who have EPs out on both Big Neck and Windian. We think of Big Neck Records as an extended family, and rock-n-roll must be genetic because Scott Wilson, Odie Fury’s brother, is the mastermind behind The Electricutions.

Scott came to Washington D.C. and saw a niche in the rock-n-roll scene that he wanted to fill. He has set out to create what he hopes will be a premier punk rock band in this area. As the EP Sedition, Subversion, and Espionage on Big Neck will attest, rock-n-roll is still alive and going strong in DC! These guys and their first four songs will have you calling for a revolution, dressing in black, being subversive, pounding down beer, and cursing the establishment of rock.

The Electricutions | Forgotten City

The Forgotten City EP released on Windian Records at the beginning of this year just proves that The Electricutions have what it takes. Once again, they seem to be channeling punk rock from when it meant something. They manage to pack a song with hooks and lyrics that make you think while you rock. Best part is they manage to do it with out being dicks about it.

The Electricutions are bringing back some political punk rock to the DC area. These guys are fighting to bring political lyrics back to the medium that reflects social unrest best: punk rock. Be prepared to hear some balls-to-the-wall sounds blasting out from these guys at Marcatus. Maybe we should all bring some protest signs and protest something. I will let you decide what. As for me, I’ll just be listening to them rock out.

See you Sunday,
—Cory F., Big Neck Records

Also, just added to the Big Neck/Windian mini fest is Thee Lolitas. Here is what Travis from Windian has to say about the bands:

JUST WHEN ALL OF THE D.C. “GARAGE” BANDS ARE DISBANDED, MOVED AWAY, OR SITTING AROUND WAITING FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN, THEE LOLITAS COME ALONG TO WAKE EVERYONE UP AND KEEP ONE FOOT OUT OF THE GARAGE/PUNK GRAVE. HELL BENT, COCK SURE HEAVY BASHINGS REMINISCENT OF EARLY OBLIVIANS, MEMPHIS ROCK N ROLL, AND A LITTLE BIT O’ WAYLONS. SOLID FOOT STOMPERS OF BRASH, FACE MELTING, UNGA BUNGAS, THEE LOLITAS LAY OUT WHAT THIS CITY CHOSE TO IGNORE DURING THE “D.C. GARAGE HAYDAY” ONLY TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT ROCK N ROLL IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE FUN, NOT SERIOUS…

Thee Lolitas | Caffeine Pills

THEE LOLITAS HAVE A DEBUT 7″ OUT SOON ON THE D.C. IMPRINT, ARNOLD RECORDS, AND WILL HAVE A TRACK FEATURED ON THE UPCOMING WINDIAN: POW WOW VOL. 1 LP, FEATURING YOUR FAVORITE WET-BRAINED BANDS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD.
