TVD’s 9:30 Club October Concert Preview, Part I

You know the deal. We preview the 9:30 Club shows you should be checking out. You can enter later this month for a chance to win tickets to each of them.

Better upgrade that grande pumpkin spice latte to a venti; we’ve got another two-part show preview to satisfy Rocktober lovers across the District.

Ladytron, Tues 10/11

Electro-pop provocateurs, Ladytron, will hit the 9:30 Club with their fifth studio release, Gravity the Seducer. Notorious for continually reinventing their sound, vocalist Mira Aroya says, “there is a strong lyrical thread of playful illusionary imagery of dreamlike scenarios and surreal landscapes that runs through the new album.” Washingtonians will definitely want to treat themselves to a night of moody English synths fused with etheric pop. Get your tea and scone ready, we may have a pair of tickets up for grabs later today…

Uh Huh Her, Wed 10/12

California indie-pop duo, Leisha Hailey and Camila Grey, better known as Uh Huh Her, return to D.C. as part of The Keep A Breast Tour. The month-long, North American adventure aims to promote breast cancer awareness via a grassroots education movement. Uh Huh Her will release their long awaited second LP, Nocturnes, this month. According to SheWired.com, “the 11-song mix perfectly melds moody dance pop with guitar and synth-driven electro. Album highlights include the anthemic, synthesizer-driven songs ‘Another Case,’ ‘Wake To Sleep,’ and ‘Human Nature.'”

Deer Tick, Sun 10/16

No, we’re not talking about the pesky insect; Deer Tick is a five-piece indie folk rock band from Providence, RI. What originally started out as a solo project of guitarist and singer-songwriter John McCauley quickly developed into a full ensemble with a large underground following. With three full-lengths and a handful of EPs already under their belt, Deer Tick looks to release their fourth album, Divine Providence, which they call a “raw and spontaneous kerosene blaze.” Recently named as part of SPIN’s “26 Fall Albums That Matter Most,” the new record will hit stores on October 25th. Washingtonians will not want to miss the live-wire energy folk of Deer Tick this month. (Oh and we’re secretly hoping for a least one Nirvana cover during the set from “Deervana.”)

GWAR, Thurs 10/20

D.C. is going heavy metal just in time for Halloween as GWAR brings the Return of the Maggot Tour to town. Celebrating twenty-five years of blood, guts, and aggressive rock, the Richmond, VA band looks to shock audience like never before. With gruesome costumes and more theatrical carnage than a horror flick, concert-goers will want to make sure to dress their worst for this infamous bloody event. Still not sure what a GWAR show entails? Perhaps you should watch the video below and hope our TVD reporters make it out of the show alive on the 20th…

A handful of great concerts to catch during the first part of the month; don’t miss out! Fans of English electro-pop should keep calm and carry on, till those tix are up for grabs!
