Years ago, I had the foresight to catch Akron/Family live, as they were were Angels of Light’s backing band on the tour. If I weren’t such a huge Michael Gira fan, I might say they blew AoL out of the water.
Four punk rock hillbillies presented thrashing tumultuous indie rock with banshee harmonies to an audience of enormous smiles. I have not seen them since, so I am completely delighted to have the opportunity to do so again, and I am even more excited that TVD has a pair of tickets to give away to one lucky winner to see them at Rock and Roll Hotel tomorrow night.
Touring in support of Akron/Family II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT, an album more accessible than their previous five, the show could take a turn for the mainstream. That is, unless they throw in some delights off their twenty-five song 2011 Record Store Day collaboration featuring reworkings and illuminations from the album or some tracks off their 2005 self-titled album.
TVD has a pair of tickets for one lucky winner who comments on this post with the name of their favorite famous family. I was going to say the Baldwins, but instead I’ll go with Family Feud.
