In 2009, Craig Owens parted ways with long-time band, Chiodos. News of the departure had the Twitterverse and music zine world swirling in rumors and speculation.
The industry eagerly awaited Owens’s next move, and nearly a year later, he re-emerged on the scene with the announcement of his new band, Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows… or D.R.U.G.S. for short. The line up features veteran musicians: guitarist Nick Martin (Underminded), drummer Aaron Stern (Matchbook Romance), guitarist Matt Good (From First to Last), and bassist Adam Russell (Story of the Year).
This post-hardcore supergroup taunted the industry for months with music samples and teaser videos, building a sense of hype and controversy that only Owens can carry, and carry he did.
Critics were quickly won over by the first single, “If You Think This Song Is About You, It Probably Is.” A song, and video, that sends a power punch to the senses with it’s aggressive prelude that suddenly dives into catchier rhythms, and dynamic electronica undertones.
D.R.U.G.S. delivered a sold, and emotionally seething self-titled debut last year and quickly captivated audiences across North America when they debuted live on the Vans Warped Tour.
When you listen to D.R.U.G.S. start to finish, it becomes quite evident Owens has swallowed more than one bitter pill in his life.
