It’s Women’s History Month, so what better way to end it than by listening to a bunch of ladies spinning a vinyl-heavy set of music by the ladies of rock ‘n’ roll?
Sugar and Spice is everything nice! Starting today, on the last Wednesday of the month at the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington D.C, Andria Leo (Andi Supreme), Jenn Bress (DJ Jennder) and Sun Kim (Sally-go-round) will highligh music by women from all eras and genres, everything from the Shangri-las to the Runaways to the Dum Dum Girls. Girl group, dance, pop, indie, rock, metal, if women are involved we’ll be sure to kick out their jams.
Frankly, we’re blushing at the really nice things Fritz Hahn said about the night in the The Washington Post’s Going out Gurus:
Women’s History Month is the perfect time for the debut of Sugar and Spice , a DJ night whose motto is “All ladies, all the time.” DJs-about-town Andi Supreme, Jennder and Sally-Go-Round spin only female artists and female-powered bands — from ’60s girl group harmonies to Riot Grrrl anthems to indie-rock rave-ups. Starting this week, the no-cover party takes place the last Wednesday of the month in the Rock and Roll Hotel’s upstairs bar.
Andi Supreme is a resident DJ for the Modern World events at the Black Cat and has DJed at Dodge City with Dianamatic for their Noisegate night.
DJ Jennder is a veteran DJ and a fixture in the local music scene. She has had monthly nights at Velvet Lounge (Lipstick) and the Black Cat (Confusion) as well as a radio show at CPR.
Sally-go-round was a member of the all women DJ crew, First Ladies DJ Collective (FLDC), and was a resident at their monthly Girl Friday dance nights at the Black Cat. She has also had a monthly night at Saint Ex (The Happening) and have been guest DJ at numerous DJ nights around town.
