TVD Recommends: Sonido Martines at Tropicalia, tonight, 10/11

Want to shake it to a nice mix of South American, African, and European sounds?

Try cumbia—a charismatic and evolving style that owes its sound to influences the world over. Tonight, cumbia-crate digging all-star Sonido Martines comes all the way from La Paz, Bolivia to spin some love on a genre that breaks barriers and builds bridges at the Tropicalia, and we most definitely think you should go.

Sonido Martines brings with him an educated catalog in all things Latin. From tropical to chica, dub to hip-hop, Martines carries a huge back catalog of rare finds, obscure tracks, and must-hears that’ll keep the evening alive.

He truly shines in his vinyl collection and is known to travel across South America searching for rare cumbia beats featured in his set. So not only will you hear great music, you’ll get your earful of some of the most obscure and sought-after rare cuts. If you’re looking for old sounds that are new to you, you’re sure to fall in love with Martines’ set, as he’s known to put his own spin on old favorites, remixing songs into his own cumbia classics.
