TVD Ticket Giveaway:
Beats, Bass and Brau at UHall, 10/18

On Thursday, October 18, Fort Knox Recordings and DC Brau present a Beats, Bass and Brau. This special event will showcase two UK producers, some DC all-stars and a brand new specialty drink called the “Grand Citizen.” This show goes down at U Street Music Hall.

Aside from our local favorites Fort Knox Five, Thunderball, and DJ Slant, Bailey and Boca 45 will bring the funk from the Queen’s land. From London, former BBC 1Xtra radio station host Bailey has parlayed his deft ear and personality to drum ‘n’bass regality. A resident and events host at Metalheadz (a pioneering drum ‘n’ bass label), Bailey has toured the world heavily over the past twenty years (and here in DC).

Though Bailey gained footing in the drum’n’bass scene, he’s spent the past 10 years recording tracks for labels including C.I.A, Roni Size’s Full Cycle, and A Guy Called Gerald’s Protechshon.

Bailey’s counterpart from Bristol, Boca 45 comes from the trademark acid-jazz-trip-hop scene native to the arts mecca. Working alongside DJ Andy Smith of Portishead they were the brick and mortar behind the breakbeat hip hop collective Dynamo Productions. Boca 45 expanded his work to Ninjatune Records and Rae and Christian’s Grand Central imprint. On 7” vinyl, Boca 45 was well known to drop classic rare grooves on the medium. In between touring to DC and other cities, Boca 45 is working vocalist such as Gee from Malachai (Domino Records). Boca 45 respected in Bristol and beyond as prolific producer and DJ known for breaks, funk & soul and golden era hip hop.

DC Brau will be on hand with their staff with an open bar from 10 to 11:00pm with complimentary DC Brau “Citizen.” The ever ambitious DC Brau team is taking this opportunity to debut a new speciality drink called “The Grand Citizen”—of which a shot of Grand Marnier is dropped into Citizen ale. “The Grand Citizen” just might give the Gin Rickey (also born in DC) a run for its money.

We’re giving away one pair of tickets and a limited edition 7” issue of Fort Knox Five’s “Party Pushers” (ft. Mustafa Akbar) the Fort Knox Recordings catalog. Tell us who your favorite artist is from the Bristol underground music scene. (Massive Attack is one my favorites.) We’ll choose one winner at noon on Thursday, 10/18.

U Street Music Hall is located at 1115 U Street NW, Washington, DC. Doors open at 10pm until 3am. 18 & up to enter and only $10 Tickets.
