Weekend Shots!

If someone asked me what I did last weekend I’d say, what day is it again? As weekends come and go, it’s always a good idea to remember what you did so that you have plenty to chat about around the water cooler come Monday… even if that water cooler is your own private coffee table. Make it memorable with some local and non-local bands mixed in with a cat’s meow this weekend.

Friday, 10/19, The Do Likes play at the Red Palace starting promptly at 9pm. Not the headliner but a return cast of the former, Five Maseratis. You may recognize one Jorge Pezzimenti from the 80s tribute band, The Legwarmers (also a former Pietaster). Catch him without his sunshades & skinny jeans in his beatles-y band the Do Likes and be sure to keep an eye out for Pezzimenti, he’s been known to steal your girl scout cookies and eat them whole.

Also DO stay for the Argentine band, The Kavanaghs and of course the lovely headliner, Olivia Mancini—a sweet ending to your Friday night and impressive beginning to your weekend.

Saturday, 10/20, Father John Misty (originally from Baltimore) plays at the Black Cat for an evening of non-church hymns.

This non-priest and former Fleet Foxes drummer, Josh Tillman, will crack jokes, seduce you with his dancing, tell you random thoughts, and may release meows here and there. If that isn’t enough to convince you, just read his tweets and tell me that you wouldn’t want to have a five-hour conversation with the guy, let alone stand in his presence while he belts out love potions for…. cats. Meow.

After catching Father John Misty, you’ll need a day to re-coup bringing us to Monday (the new Sunday), well, we can all pretend for just this week anyway!

Monday, 10/21, Sea Wolf plays at DC9 for what is sure to be an intimate blessing, supporting the recent release of Old World Romance. Alex Brown Church is sure to entice you, making you believe you are old friends, one that won’t leave you lost at sea. Pun intended. Be sure to get there early to enjoy a pimento grilled cheese, need I say more?

In preparation you can stream the entirely of his latest album via their website. Monday just got a little better.
