TVD’s 9:30 Club May Concert Preview

It’s a new month, and that means plenty of new 9:30 Club shows to get excited about. Here’s your May preview and an extra chance to win tickets to the show of your choice from below—don’t forget to answer the challenge at the bottom! Here are four shows that give fresh sounds and good deeds.

Hush Sound and Hockey, Fri 5/17 at U Street Music Hall

The indie pop four-piece band from Chicago, The Hush Sound, are no longer quiet, back from a break with a new record coming down the pipe this year.

They have shared the stage with OK GO, Phantom Planet, One Republic, and The Dresden Dolls and will be co-headlining U Hall this month with Hockey.

Soundbites, Sun 5/19

Eating food never tasted so good. Join the 9:30 Club next Sunday for an afternoon of music, food and change—a benefit for the DC Central Kitchen.

Musical entertainment includes Lee Fields and the Expressions, DEATHFIX (Brendan Canty, Richard Morel, Devin Ocampo and Mark Cisneros), DJ Will Eastman, The Razz, Kid Congo and his Kid Congo Power Hour, Richard Morel’s Hot Sauce, and Batala. In addition, there will be a mixologist competition and food tastings from area restaurants and food trucks. Be there or be hungry!

Futurebirds, Thurs 5/23

Fat Possum Records artist Futurebirds will headline the club this month, just off of releasing a highly anticipated album. They released their second full-length album in April, titled Baba Yaga, after two years of thinking it would never happen.

The self-described “psychedelic country” band will headline the club at the end of the month. Come for the music, but make sure you don’t fall prey to the ever changing spirits of the baga yaga—you may find yourself dancing in the clouds.

The Dandy Warhols, Wed 5/29

The Dandy Warhols have been around since the early ’90s and have graced popular television shows such as Mythbusters with their poppy sound, releasing their last album This Machine in 2012.

Close out the month with the alt-rockers, who will be releasing the 13th Anniversary Edition of their third studio album Thirteen Tales of Urban Bohemia on June 11.

Stay tuned throughout the month for more info about how to win a pair of tickets to each of the shows listed. For an extra entry into the giveaway of your choice, tell us below, your favorite album from any of the four bands above.

Get to the club, and good luck, music freaks!
