TVD Ticket Giveaway: Those Darlins and Diarrhea Planet at the Rock & Roll Hotel, 2/15

Two up-and-coming bands hailing from the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll are checking-in to DC’s Rock & Roll Hotel on Saturday, February 15, and we’re giving away a pair of tickets.

First on the line-up is the country-rock band Those Darlins. Formed in 2008, the quartet is known for creating and adopting their own blend of country music.

The band’s three albums successfully display their flexibility with sound, each being inspired by different genres than the previous. Those Darlins’ third and most recent release, Blur the Line, was released last October along with two singles “Oh God” and “Optimist.”

To add to Those Darlins’ list of tour mates, which include Mumford & Sons and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, are fellow Nashville rock ‘n’ rollers Diarrhea Planet. The two bands are embarking on a February tour together. Rounding out the line-up for the DC show is local favorite Paperhaus, which is both the name of their band and the popular DIY concert space they reside in.

A year after the formation of Those Darlins, the oddly named band Diarrhea Planet took form. Though the origin of the name is unknown, the six-piece is known for their killer live shows and for their loud, energetic, and powerful sound, which is only amplified by having four guitarists. The band released their second album, I’m Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams, last August. It has been praised by numerous publications, including The New York Times and Pitchfork.

For a chance to win a pair of tickets, drop a comment below naming a band with an unfortunate name. At the moment, nothing really sticks out to me as much as Diarrhea Planet does…

A winner will be chosen at noon on Thursday, February 13. Tickets are still available for purchase.

D.planet is one of the best bands out now, I totally agree the name is really bad but Perfect Pussy may be a close second.

I always thought that Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel was a really bad name for a band – an unfortunate one, if you will.  Maybe they agreed, since they shortened it to Foetus.

    Nickelback.
It may be a combination of their music and name that make it so unfortunate.

  • MaryW

Also Hoobastank. Sounds like something that’s really smelly.

  • 10YearsGone11

I think !!! is a pretty stupid name for a band.

  • lauraisawesome

    Syphilitic Vaginas…and yes, Nickelback.

    The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza

  • betsy_a

The Hooters — named for a nickname for the melodica, which gave the band it’s unique sound, but still hugely unfortunate…
