TVD Ticket Giveaway: Dr. Dog at the 9:30 Club, 3/15

In west Philadelphia, born and raised…

Okay, so rock band Dr. Dog may not be from the same area as the Fresh Prince, but the six-piece is from Philly. Strongly inspired by legendary bands of the ’60s, Dr. Dog brings the sound of the Beatles and The Beach Boys to the present… adding their own hometown twist to it, of course. The band returned to their hometown this past winter to record their latest release, titled B-Room.

Dr. Dog is currently on their B-Room Tour, promoting the new album. Since their first show at the 9:30 Club, March 14, sold out, the band added another show to their tour. Saturday, March 15, Dr. Dog will be playing a second show at the 9:30 Club, and we’re giving away a pair of tickets.

B-Room marks Dr. Dog’s eighth studio album, but it is the first to be recorded in their newly built studio, which they call the B-room. Prior to recording, the band regrouped to design and build the B-room. Band member Toby Leaman says, “the whole process of recording really started with building the studio.” The extra bonding time allowed B-Room to become a truly collaborative effort that reconnected them as a band and created a fun, soulful album.

To win tickets to Dr. Dog’s second show at the 9:30 Club on Saturday, March 15, drop a comment below naming your favorite musician/band from Philly. Mine would have to be The Roots.

The winner will be chosen on at noon on Tuesday, March 4. Tickets for the second show are still available for purchase.

It was a close one between Man Man and Kurt Vile, but I’m going to have to go with Man Man. Honus Honus is a definite personality.

Sun Ra.  Not only was he a bit of a character, but he and the Arkestra put on fabulous shows, including a couple I saw at the old 9:30.  A friend of mine went to U. of Penn. in Philly and said whenever she walked  by their house, the windows were all shut and you could hear quite a racket inside.

Hall and Oates, first and foremost. But more recently, I would go with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. Of course, the more obvious answer would be… Dr. Dog!
