As my rock ‘n’ roll journey continues into 2016, it’s become a habit to look for what I call “road signs.” Often these signs are literally as clear as day. Come to think of it, this week the view from Mulholland Drive has been as clear as I can remember. Where is that winter rain we were promised? “Well, ya’ just never know.”
For this week in leap February, instead of Grammy hits and love songs, I’m listening to Scottish songwriters and long gone singers from Muscles Shoals.
But the 2016 Grammys right after Valentine’s Day? Beck’s last win for best album was a step in the right direction, but I wouldn’t exactly describe Grammy eve as romantic. This year’s awards week has also been totally over-shadowed by superstar fashion designer Hedi Slimane and Ives Saint Laurent’s decision to bring their fall fashion show to Sunset Strip.
The Irony of Saint Laurent’s glamorous take on indie rock is not lost on this Idelic host. While cheeseball, wanna be pop-stars and their “used car salesmen/pluggers” fight over who will get their 15 minutes on TMZ, Hedi and his flock of amazing rock ‘n’ roll youth have stolen New York’s fashion week thunder and have joined us in Hollywood with a clear simple message:
ROCK ‘N’ ROLL is still cool. (Cheeseballs fuck off!)
