The Lineup: Nobunny, Ted Nugent

This weekend brings about a couple of shows in Memphis that are sure to be very, very different, but which also have one thing in common: Meat. Yes, this is a weekend of meat. Let me explain.

Friday, July 15th: Nobunny at Hi Tone Cafe with Sharp Balloons and Kruxe

Nobunny is the alias of garage/punk/power/bubbly love pop musician Justin Champlin. It’s a weird (read: awesome) show. You can expect a bunny mask, and some disrobing, or weird outfits, loads of sweaty hipsters, possibly women’s underwear covering up what it wasn’t meant to, etc etc. Sometimes Champlin wears outfits made of trash, and he’s even been seen wearing one made of… you guessed it… meat. Go early and catch the new wave stylings of local openers Kruxe, and dance your head off on what should be a fun Friday night!

Sunday, July 17th: Ted Nugent at The New Daisy Theater

Likes: Hunting, loaded guns, loud guitars, awesome sunglasses, meat, killing things with your bare hands, political conservatism, 80’s supergroups, other supergroups formed on reality television shows, reality television shows.

Dislikes: Gun control, drugs, alcohol, animal rights groups, Goldfinger (who once released a song called FTN – I’ll let you guess what it stands for), Tila Tequila, and likely, smarmy internet columnists.

Based on the above information, I can’t say that the Nuge and I would be friends. But I can tell you that I’m going to see him on Sunday at the New Daisy. In fact, I wouldn’t miss it. It might be my only chance to see the old guy before he shoots himself, or has an even worse chainsaw accident, or dies of meat poisoning. Long live Cat Scratch Fever!!
