TVD Live: Vivian Girls
at The Hitone, 9/13

Last Tuesday night we welcomed Vivian Girls to the The Hi-Tone. They are a punk rock, surf pop trio from Brooklyn, New York featuring Cassie Ramone (guitar/vocals), Katy “Kickball Katy” Goodman (bass/drums/vocals), and Fiona Campbell (drums/vocals).

Their music sounds like Ramones collided with The Shangri-Las and from the explosion came Vivian Girls.

They may look cutesy in their dresses dancing to the DJ before their sets begin, but don’t let that fool you. They can wail on the guitar and smash the drums like any punk band. When they took the stage the crowed was ready to move. As their set moved along, guys started banging their heads and shaking their fists in the air as the ladies started dancing and twirling each other.

During their last song, Goodman got off stage and was playing her guitar as she exchanged shoes with a girl in the crowd. When the song was over they changed back, but the fan was more than ecstatic that she and Goodman wore each other’s shoes.

The band looks to be on the tail end of their tour, playing Great Scott in Allston, Massachuse, tonight at 7:00 PM and the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow night. If you can;t make it to one of their shows, be sure to check out their album Share the Joy. Purchase it on CD / LP / MP3 here.
