Weekend Shots

Hey Memphis, Fall has fallen and it’s nice outside!

Keeping in mind how perfect it is outside for jackets and park walks, we’ve engineered a weekend shots for you that’s all about a walking distance. This weekend we have you getting dirty with some swampy blues, getting strung out on good country, and getting a hefty serving of tasty throwback. I hope you’ve bought tickets to the gun show, it’s time for some weekend shots!

Friday (10/12) starts things off on a gritty, bluesy, bayou laden note that’ll have you reaching for your slide guitar and thinking about the nearest restaurant that serves gumbo.

Honey Island Swamp Band bring their throwback southern blues to the gorgeous venue this is the Levitt Shell. The Swamp Band is a collection of musicians who can jam out and will have family friendly music, so bring the kids to this one and enjoy how nice a Friday can be.

After you get an earful of the Honey Swamp Island Band, we’ve got a great show in walking distance. Brooklyn-based alt-country act Yarn are booked over at the Hi-Tone Cafe. The Grammy nominated quintet released their latest this year Almost Home to critical success. They’ll be joined by the Teagan & Sara inspired Alex Da Ponte and everyone’s favorite “traditional” country crooners, Memphis Dawls.

Saturday (10/13) follows in the footsteps of the evening before and has you starting out back at the Levitt Shell. Memphis staple and definitive throwback rocker and co. John Paul Keith and the One, Four, Five’s bring an educated sense of what was once to the outdoor venue. Keith has just returned from a European stint and is still buzzing from of his 2011 release, The Man that Time Forgot. Come out to hear expertly performed throwback rock ‘n’ roll.

After you get an earful of Keith and co., yet another walk away is another great show at The Hi-Tone Cafe. Pop singer and Mary Louise Parker arm candy (yea, I know, I’m jealous too), Charlie Parker is coming in. Parker came from Mississippi and carries a hefty amount of southern roots in his six-string ballads. This year saw the release of Blackberry Light, his 7th album. He’ll be joined by Josh Maze, adding even more pleasant guitar music to your saturday evening.
