The leader of the legendary gospel group the Zion Harmonizers has joined the big choir in the sky. Besides his work with the singing group, Washington was also the driving force behind the Gospel Tent at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival since the event’s inception. They have performed at every Jazz Fest.
The Zion Harmonizers have been together for 72 years with various singers while always maintaining the traditional four part harmonies that have been around for centuries. Yet, the group was also groundbreaking. They helped usher in a new focus on gospel music and have toured internationally. Most recently, they performed regularly at the House of Blues gospel brunch.
