Weekend Shots!

With summer hanging over our heads, its arrival just under a week away, the music is growing plentiful in the streets of New Orleans. We’ve done what we can to pore through your options, so may we present to you…some TVD selects!

Previous TVD Interviewee, Micah Mckee’s latest ensemble, Little Maker, is at HOB this eve, for Friday Happy Hour. The show starts at 5pm and it’s free. This is the perfect weekend liftoff and plenty of time to get toasty before heading deeper into the quarter, if that’s your thing.

Presented by Aquarium Drunkard, local celebs MyNameIsJohnMichael are at One Eyed Jacks tonight, along with The Breton Sound. With a new teaser titled Orphans and Elders, it’s just scratching the surface of MNIJM’s forthcoming release Picture Perfect Past. Catch some of these new ditties starting at 9pm, suckahs.

Because I’m a fan of staying at OEJ’s for extended hours (ie, continuing to drink once the doors have been locked), let’s move right over to Saturday night, where the noise rock princes of Caddywhompus play at Circle Bar starting at 9pm. Equals tags along for the ride, whom My Old Kentucky Blog sang praises for this year after reviewing their debut EP . “The densely layered songs all have their distinctive storyboard of moods and textures, each one a lovely surprise yet all five somehow melding together to form a cohesive, cinematic whole.” Loves!

On Saturday night you should definitely be at WTUL‘s Punkfest, complete with Disappointed Parents, Sheeple, and Fat Stupid Ugly People. The party starts early at 2pm. Hope you’re still standing come midnight.

If you’re brave enough I leave you with Sunday’s show at the Parish at House of Blues. Doom metal is the best celebration of Sunday, is it not? I found out about The Sword when they used to tour with …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, but the guys are still throwing elbows and are heading in the studio later this month to record their fourth album.
