TVD Recommends: Honey Island Swamp Band acoustic tonight, 4/19

I remember back in the day, the Radiators used to occasionally play an acoustic set. Those nights were memorable because the band would break out unusual covers and rare originals. Tonight at the Rusty Nail, the HISB is going unplugged.

The gig starts at 10 PM sharp. The band is already going to be set up because they are playing a private party that starts earlier.

The problem with the latter-day acoustic Rads shows was that they weren’t really acoustic. They just played softer. Not so tonight. They intend to forgo the drum kit in favor of congas, the piano and guitars will be acoustic, and the bass will be an upright.

I have it on good authority that you will hear many songs that the band typically doesn’t play live as part of their regular repertoire, as well as some cool cover songs and stripped-down arrangements of HISB favorites.

Also. the band will be playing songs from their new album, Cane Sugar, which is coming out in a local pre-release during Jazz Fest. Starting next Friday, the album will be available in the music tent at Jazz Fest, and it will be available at local stores such as Louisiana Music Factory and Peaches.

The cover charge is a mere $5 and the doors open at 9:30 PM.

See you there!
