Foundation Free Fridays continue all summer at Tipitina’s

One of the perks of living through the sweltering heat of July, August, and early September in New Orleans is that the granddaddy of local music clubs opens its doors to all comers on Fridays for the rest of the summer. (Read on for one special exception…)

This weekend, two bands that are the cutting edge of the new New Orleans’ sounds, Gravity A and Khris Royal and Dark Matter grace the stage at the uptown club. All the shows begin at 10 PM.

Next Friday, July 12, James Andrews and the Crescent City Allstars (pictured at top) are the headliners. Another fast rising band, the Brass-A-Holics, is the opening act.

The rest of July features Good Enough For Good Times plus Chris Mule and the Perpetrators on the 20th, and the Stooges Brass Band plus Rickie B on the 27th. August begins with Earphunk and the Quickening on the 2nd. The New Orleans Suspects and Gravy follow in the 9th.

I think everyone would really dig it if the show on August 16th was free. But since it’s Dr. John debuting his new band at the club, we’ll just have to dig deep and support the man.

August closes out with Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes and Naughty Professor on the 23rd, and the Honey Island Swamp Band plus Colin Lake on the 30th.

The series ends on September 6th with Flow Tribe plus the Mike Dillon Band.

See you there!
