TVD Vinyl Giveaway: Weird Owl, “Healing” EP & The KVB, Minus One

a-recordings

Hey, we’ve got a twofer going today! A double-shot, if you will. And the two records come to you from Anton Newcombe, of Brian Jonestown Massacre’s label, A Recordings. They are the most recent releases from the excellent label and are sure to please any heady, psych-leaning listeners out there.

First up is Brooklyn’s own Weird Owl with their “Healing” EP, which I have personally been digging a lot for the past couple of weeks. And when writing about Weird Owl, as opposed to speaking about them, it’s nice to not have to explain or over-annunciate the band name to differentiate between them and Weird Al.

This killer EP comes as a double 10-inch—one is dayglo yellow and the other is dayglo pink! Here’s what Anton Newcombe himself has to say:

THE MESSAGE IS ONE OF COSMIC HARMONY AND SIMPLICITY.

THE PERFECTION OF GEOMETRY AND ABOVE ALL, BEAUTY.

SOMETIMES THE MESSENGER IS A MAN AND SOMETIMES THE MESSENGER IS AN OWL.

(Catch Weird Owl live in Brooklyn at Hank’s Saloon on Friday, December 6th.)

The next item up for bids is The KVB’s LP Minus One.

“Based in London, The KVB is the audio/visual project of Nicholas Wood and Kat Day. The KVB have been quietly releasing slabs of droning guitars, minimal synth melodies, and reverb drenched vocals since 2010. Minus One was recorded in the band’s own studio over 5 days in 2011. During the live show, the band programs visuals to match the audio, hypnotically alluring one’s consciousness and physical body in and out of textured illusions.

In December, they will support Brian Jonestown Massacre on their Australian Tour and shortly after, The KVB will go to Brazil for their first shows in South America.”

So, now is your chance to win both of these great new albums from A Recordings on glorious vinyl! In the comments below, tell us your favorite weird animal. My answer is the aardvark, because what’s up with those fuckers?!

One winner for both with a North American mailing address will be chosen on Wednesday, November 20th.

My favorite weird animal is the platypus. Is it a duck? Is it a beaver? Is it a secret agent? Who the fuck knows, but they are cool as hell with their melting pot ways.

  • micnite

Mine is the Snuffleupagus because they seem to get along with all types of creatures, especially birds.

  • JonContra

Birds of Paradise.. who doesn’t like a good mating dance??

  • AdonAArteaga

The Prairie Dog. They are just awesome and cute.

  • SickShadows

Sloths. They are quite weird but smile often and never get in a rush.

  • Legends

    Axolotl, weirdest smiling animal

  • liddokun

The mantis shrimp, cause it can see more than 5 times the colours than humans can, and kills things by punching them with a velocity equal to a freakin 22 calibre rifle.  Like…seriously…the strike so fast it creates tiny bursts of light.

  • Slings

The viscacha – part rabbit, part chinchilla. Very vocal, they are known to live in underground dwellings designed like apartment complexes, ranging from 10-100 burrows. Some are differentiated by moustache-like marking on their faces (classy).
