Weekend Shots!

Let me first apologize by saying…I can’t help it Seattle! Maybe it’s the sudden shift in the weather, but something’s making me gravitate towards electronic rock pop beats this weekend. I guess I’m holding on to that last, tiny scrap of energy we were gifted during these previous warm, summer months. Either way I’m definitely suggesting you indulge yourself at some fine Seattle music venues this weekend and reminisce of the season that has unofficially just passed.

Here’s my picks on how you should spend your time hiding out from the rain this weekend.

Friday, 10/12 – Com Truise with Poolside at Chop Suey | Com Truise stepped on the scene in 2011 and has showed promise with his 80s-inspired, synthetically-produced beats. Com Truise (Seth Hailey) is touring in promotion of his newest album, In Decay.

The album consistently makes the listener feel as if they are the driver in Atari’s 1983 video game, “Pole Position” and I’m sure that feeling will stick when he plays at the ever-dark and eerie electronic-loving venue, Chop Suey on Friday. While Truise is a worthy-enough musician to put on your schedule for the weekend, the real winners of the night are his supporting act, Poolside.

Poolside is the disco-influenced child of DJs, Jeffery Paradise, and Filip Nikolic. The band’s beats bring a mixture of chillwave and light electronic that is fitting for the duo, who resides in Los Angeles. Both DJs have a musical background with indie favorites—Paradise was once in a band with current members of the pop-rock band The Rapture, and Nikolic was a bassist for pop band Junior Senior.

While their collaborations started out as a fun experiment, their latest album, Pacific Standard Time, shows the musicians’ expertise with and passion for music that makes a crowd move and get caught up in the optimistic sound. Dance shoes are not required but highly recommended for the 21+ show. The electropop band, Bonde Do Role will be opening, as well. Doors open at 9PM. $13 advanced tickets, $15 at the door.

Saturday, 10/13 – Exitmusic at Barboza | Hailing from Brooklyn, comes the dark, raw beauty that is electro-pop group, Exitmusic. United by marriage and a pleasure for making music that has both the potential to heal an existing wound in your heart and form a new one elsewhere, Exitmusic is lead-singer Aleksa Palladinos and Devon Church.

Palladinos’ voice is haunting and the blend of guitar, electronics and light drums on their most recent album, Passage helps create a dramatic soundtrack to go along with life’smany twist and turns. Fortunately, their music never takes a complete dive toward a dark and ominous ending; it just teeters on the edge. IO ECHO will open for the band when they perform at Barboza on Friday at the 21+ show. Doors open at 7PM. Advanced tickets are $10.

Sunday, 10/14 – The Springboards at Nectar | Nectar is known for their many epic dance parties comprised of artist mash–ups—think Biggie vs. Pac, Prince vs. Michael. But on the nights they aren’t taking us a decade or so back on the dance floor, Nectar brings some great local music to the forefront. Which is exactly what the venue is doing this Sunday by fronting the local band, The Springboards. An equal foursome comprised of 2 girls and 2 guys, The Springboards bring good old rock to the stage.

Singer Seth Swift has roaring vocals that can hit a pitch in just the right way to add an edge to songs that could possibly, otherwise, be overlooked. Swift’s voice, combined with the heavy backing of his band mates on drums, guitar and bass put the band in a good position to become a name on the Seattle music scene. Tacoma natives, The Fame Riots and electronic soul artist, Teeter Totter open for The Springboards at Nectar on Sunday. Doors open at 8AM at the 21+ show. $5 for advanced tickets.
