TVD’s Record Store Day Newswire: Black Friday Vinyl Releases

Yesterday, Record Store Day and its team announced the Back To Black Friday release of The Beatles – The Singles (Apple / EMI), a brand new box set from the Fab Four featuring four 7″ singles, each with an A-side sung by one of the four, in their original sleeves. The Singles will include a Record Store Day branded-adapter along with a poster.

All eight tracks, (“Ticket To Ride”/ “Yes It Is,” “Hey Jude”/ “Revolution,” “Something” / “Come Together,” and “Yellow Submarine” / “Eleanor Rigby”) are newly remastered and those remasters are appearing on vinyl for the first time.

“The concept of creating a special Beatles seven-inch box-set with our RSD’s partners at EMI was inspired by the original 1960s’ series of American “4 X 4″ seven-inch vinyl EPs,” Michael Kurtz, Record Store Day co-founder told TVD yesterday.

“Originally, Record Store Day pitched EMI on the possibility of reissuing these rare Beatle 7″ vinyl gems for Black Friday. Instead of going backward in time, EMI decided to move forward and create a new innovative seven-inch vinyl package that is truly special and unique for Beatles fans.”

“It will include four vinyl seven-inch reissues with one number hit single sung by each of the four Beatles: John, Paul, George and Ringo. These four #1 hit singles will be the first time that the newly remastered Beatle recordings will appear on vinyl and will include a special Apple/Record Store Day spindle inside and Beatles poster. This Beatles seven-inch set is no doubt going to be one of the most sought after music gifts this holiday season and we are super psyched that music fans will be able to get them at indie record shops on Black Friday both here in the U.S., as well as Canada and the U.K.”

Apple/Capitol will also release John Lennon Imagine – 40th Anniversary Box Set, a 2010-remastered LP, which includes six tracks on a stunning white vinyl 12″ along with a poster. The record, to be released exclusively for the indie stores on Black Friday, will include tracks from the original Imagine LP, recorded at Lennon’s Ascot Sound home studio and at the Record Plant, and released in 1971 along with session outtakes of classic songs “How Do You Sleep,” “Jealous Guy,” “Oh My Love,” “Baby Please Don’t Go,” “I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier” and “Imagine (take 1).”

Yoko Ono, who is credited as the album’s co-producer along with Lennon and Phil Spector, says “Record Store Day is an important way to support independent music sellers, and I’m happy that Imagine’s 40th Anniversary LP will be a part of Record Store Day’s November releases.”

If that’s not enough, The Rolling Stones announce an individually numbered 7″ vinyl single featuring an unreleased track from the Some Girls sessions: “No Spare Parts” b/w the newly remastered, “Before They Make Me Run.” Both tracks come from the upcoming Some Girls expanded editions.

Also for Black Friday, Capitol gives us a deluxe edition of Beastie Boys’ latest opus, Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, the band’s eighth studio album-a partial collaboration with singer, Santigold, released in April 2011. The deluxe edition will feature a 60-page hardbound book along with video and music content on DVD and Blu-ray. The label will also release Ryan Adams’ “Do I Wait”/”Darkness” 7″ single, including two demo tracks Ryan recorded at Electric Ladyland Studios in NYC.

In addition, Dap-Tone releases Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings’ Soul Time!, 12 blazing hot tracks, made famous in their infamous soul revue, the majority of which are unreleased, along with several tracks from previous 45s and from Daptone Gold.

In other exciting news, the Sundazed label releases The Yardbirds “Ha Ha Said the Clown” 7″ single pic sleeve, (“Ha Ha Said the Clown” b/w “Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor”) and their “Ten Little Indians” 7″ single pic sleeve, featuring “Ten Little Indians” b/w “Drinking Muddy Water”; The Byrds “The Times They Are a Changin’ ” 7″ pic sleeve, (“The Times They Are a Changin’ ” b/w “She Don’t Care about Time”) and “Eight Miles High” 7″ picture sleeve, (“Eight Miles High” b/w “Why”); and The Lovin Spoonful’s “Alley Oop” 7″ picture sleeve, featuring “Alley Oop” b/w “Night Owl Blues.”

Expect more announcements in the coming days and weeks leading up to Black Friday.
