TVD Video Premiere: Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, “Gone in Two Seconds” (Live)

(We dare you to sit still.)

We’re delighted to debut the new video from Detroit’s Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas from last March’s “Live at the Magic Bag” EP, which flaunts a delicious gumbo of cross-cultural styles—some Golgol Bordello here, some Regina Spektor there…

And while you’re nodding your heads, dancing in your bedroom, or tapping a toe in your office cube along with our premiere, we got a chance to run some vinyl-centric questions past Ms. Hernandez.

Do you remember your first record, and what was it?

I inherited a lot of vinyl at a pretty young age from my great uncle who passed away and from finding my dad’s collection he had hidden away. Since I came into dozens at one time I guess I can’t really say what my “first” was but one of the firsts to get into constant rotation was Alice Cooper, Alice Cooper Goes To Hell.

My dad was a big fan so when I took over his collection that was one of my faves. I’ve recently gotten him back into vinyl though, so I think he might have stolen it back from me…

What’s your favorite record on vinyl—and why?

Hmmm, my favorite is always changing depending on my mood or whats happening in my life. Right now it’s an Elizabeth Cotten record I got for Valentine’s Day and Tammy Wynette, Your Good Girls Gonna Go Bad.

What do you love about vinyl, and how is it a different experience for you than listening to CDs or digital files?

There’s something about having to get up and physically put the record on, then flip it half way through, that makes it more interactive. You can’t just set it and forget it.

I have a pretty huge old record player that is basically its own piece of furniture, it kind of takes the place of a TV. I’m a bit of a hoarder too, so vinyl gives me another reason to be on the lookout for more things I don’t need…ha.

Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas are playing tonight (6/24) at the Satellite in Los Angeles.
