There’s something about dusty tremolo guitar and sultry female vocals soaked in slap back reverb that send me into a fit of nostalgia for 1960s pop. I’m not talking Monkees here, I’m talking Nancy Sinatra.
The minimalist approach to “Dreaming” allows for an enjoyable reprieve from life’s fast pace. The song is carried on the strength of S O L O (aka Sophie Lowe’s) breathy vocal delivery, which is not unlike the majority of the female songwriters these days. For me, what separates this song from the pack, is the wonderful chorus which seems to tumble out with extraordinary ease along with a purr of counter harmonies. With the production elements subdued, the environment is left wide open for both the singer and context to take hold.
Sophie’s focus of attention here is on someone who makes her feel so good she has to pinch herself to make sure she’s not in a dream.
