Needle Drop: Draag, “You’re My Boy Blue”

Alt-shoegaze 5-piece Draag have emerged with a versatile, self-titled debut which echoes the sonic sentiments of My Bloody Valentine while staying true to their DIY roots.

The band’s single, “You’re My Boy Blue” exits the speakers wrapped in an unrelenting wall of sound. The piercing ‘Whoo hooos’ of singer Adrian Acosta slice through the distorted rhythm section, offsetting the buzzing guitars with a nuanced pop punchiness. The overall sound is akin to the early work of the Dandy Warhols and their neo-psychedelic counterparts from the late ’90s, with a more defined electronic influence.

Draag’s high flying frequencies are captured beautifully on the succinct 11 track debut. From lo-fi disco punk to ghostly dream pop, one is sure to extract the correct dose of sugary angst from this charming bundle.
