TVD Vinyl Giveaway: U.S. Royalty, Mirrors

Yes, you are seeing double; the DC-based indie outfit U.S. Royalty is re-releasing a limited edition vinyl pressing of their debut 2011 album, Mirrors—and we’re pleased to announce we have a copy to send to one of you.

This deluxe limited edition flaunts creamy marble vinyl in a sleeve printed with the band’s curvaceous logo. Mirrors also comes with some previously unreleased extras, including remixes and a new effort shared by Alex Goose and Phil Ade. Each copy comes with a digital download for listening on-the-go.

Only 300 copies have been pressed, making this album a rare little dreamboat to add to your milkcrates. The launch of this edition will be celebrated this Saturday, January 17th from 7-9pm at Hill and Dale Records in Washington, DC with an in-store acoustic performance and Polaroid exhibit, brought to you in part by Rob Norton of the same shop.

2011’s Mirrors was casually followed by Blue Sunshine in 2014, whose title track plays smooth and steady like a newly-paved highway.

The band has also recently released a single entitled “More To This” from their newest effort, which is now available on Soundcloud. Can’t make the release party? U.S. Royalty will be opening for Dr. Dog at DC’s 9:30 Club on January 22nd.

Enter to win 1 of the 300 limited edition pressings of U.S. Royalty’s Mirrors on vinyl by naming your most favorite track from the release that’s streaming above. We’ll choose one enthusiastic winner with a North American mailing address a week from today, January 21. The winner will be notified directly via email.

“Vacation Vacation” for sure. That build at the end is incredible.

“Monte Carlo” for sure!  Although “Equestrian” drew me in, “Monte Carlo” quickly became my favorite when I heard the full album.

“The Desert Won’t Save You” – I think I listened to the entire album three times in a row when I first heard it.  Rare instance of raw and polished music.  This is an excellent album and they’re great live!

Vacation, Vacation. No song reminds me more of nostalgic memories than this song. Out of everything my ears have pondered, this song sticks out. Would be an honor to own a copy on vinyl.

Although the entire album is beautifully crafted, Voice Memo resonates the most with me lyrically and I think the whole song is simplistic but speaks volumes. Discovering this album and U.S. Royalty (a seriously underrated group) in 2011 was the best thing ever!

The Desert Wont Save You is a stand out track for sure. Sounds like some 70s Psych rock lost masterpiece

“Voice Memo!” best closing track to any album I have ever heard.

Re-releasing Mirrors on vinyl is a fitting testament to the enduring, timeless nature of this debut album. I posted a similar comment in my review of the album on iTunes a few years back, but my sentiments are worth echoing in this space. Mirrors not only withstands the test of time, but like a fine wine, grows better with age. So often when I go back to listen to it, I end up where the album ends, with a song too easily overlooked in this band’s growing catalogue – Voice Memo. On an album that runs the gamut of emotions, this number closes its pages in a strangely dark and beautiful whisper, serving notice to the listener that they are not simply getting what they came for (a raucous, yet catchy rock and roll album), but are being sent off on a trip of longing and self-reflection, searching for meaning within their own life connections. Voice Memo, like all timeless pieces of art, moves the soul.

I’ve known about US Royalty for a couple of years now since being in a band with Paul and John’s youngest brother Luke and they’ve always been something to strive for. We’ve covered a lot of their songs in the past but my favorite off this record has to be Vacation Vacation. I just love the anthem of the prechorus where they say, “We’re just cool kids, livin like the good times never end.” That song never ceases to amaze me. The amount of talent these guys have is incredible. I hope to be able to meet them someday and let them know just how much their music has influenced me as a musician. Thanks guys.
