HUGElarge,
The TVD First Date

“When I was a kid vinyl was the only format besides 8-track tape. My older brother and sister had record collections that I borrowed from. I listened to comedy albums, movie soundtracks, rock ‘n’roll, doo-wop, Motown and, of course, the British Invasion on a record player as I was growing up.”

“It is my favorite way to listen to music—even during all the excitement when compact discs became the new thing. Like many of my friends, I took advantage of the new format because so many people switched over to CDs and got rid of their record collections and turntables. It was a great time for collecting records!

I like to keep a picture disc on my turntable when I’m not playing records and sometimes I even give it a spin.”

“Vinyl has always been my preferred medium for listening to music. It is what led me to being a drummer in the first place. I listened and copied my favorite drummers with the headphones cranked and my favorite sides spinning.”

“It is a very tactile experience. From opening the wrap, reading the liner notes and dropping the needle carefully on the outer edge, it has an almost unfair advantage over the CD format. There are very few CDs that I actually even bother to read the notes inside of the jewel case, whereas I always check out the liner notes on vinyl. I always check out where the recording was made and who the producer/ engineer is, sometimes even before I look into who the players are.

Of course the album cover art format is significantly superior to a CD. Think about the 3D art on Satanic Majesties, the real life zipper on Sticky Fingers, and the images all over the Exile on Main Street double album. And that is only 3 albums by one group were talking about. Those illustrations and photos are lost on a CD. The sound of vinyl is incomparable to a CD dimensionally as well.

CD = small. Vinyl = HUGE.

More vinyl please.
