“We’ve always had an eclectic and wide-ranging taste in music. After a heavy phase of Relient K and Audio Adrenaline early on in our music listening lives, our oldest sister Chelsey was given a burnt CD of The Essential Bob Dylan that we quickly snagged. That pretty much opened the floodgates, like it has for so many countless other artists, to an endless list of writers, musicians, and bands influenced by Dylan, who in turn influenced us.”
“We listen to just about everything, every genre. When we first picked up the guitar and drums around 12-years-old, we got into a lot of Weezer, Blink-182, Red Hot Chili Peppers—mostly stuff that was on MTV, but we always kept listening to and educating ourselves on the artists heavily influenced by Dylan—Springsteen, Petty, etc. Lately we’ve been listening to a lot of Chance The Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and Father John Misty’s Pure Comedy is pretty much our gospel at the moment. I think it’s only natural to be drawn to art that really says something, and says it poetically yet directly.
Our personal record collection is just as wide-ranging. Before you hit about six Springsteen records, you’ll thumb through Beach House and Best Coast. Staying on the beach theme, growing up our mom ALWAYS had a Beach Boys tape in the cassette deck of our Ford Windstar and we were really influenced by that. Naturally, we’ve got a decent amount of Beach Boy records that are always fun to throw on.
We’re spoiled—Nashville has such a great record store scene, most notably Grimey’s if you ask most people, but Fond Object and The Groove are definitely worth checking out. We always try to hit up a record store in each city when we’re on tour so we’d love any suggestions from your readers!”
