TVD Ticket and Vinyl Giveaway: The Jesus and Mary Chain in the city of your choice and the new LP, Damage and Joy

PHOTO: STEVE GULLICK | Those of you with sharp memories will recall that it was only just last week when TVD’s Alan Snodgrass chronicled The Jesus and Mary Chain at the Fillmore in San Francisco, writing “…frontman Jim Reid commanded the open stage, a long mic cable wound up and clenched in his hand as he flawlessly belted out classic after classic.”

“’Amputation’ gave way to ‘Happy When It Rains’ which flowed into ‘Head On’ before Reid finally paused to state, ‘We might play a few songs off of our new album.’ …The setlist hit on a handful of tunes from Damage and Joy including new fan favorites ‘All Things Pass’ and ‘Black and Blues.'”

“But that’s not to say that the ample set time didn’t allow room for the rest of the catalog. In fact, the band managed to cover a wide swath of material from all seven of the albums released over their 30+ year career. While The Jesus and Mary Chain have been reactivated for about a decade, Damage and Joy demonstrates that this is no nostalgia act and seeing them live only underscores the depth and relevance of their catalog.”

We’re delighted to pass along Alan’s enthusiasm to you as the band makes their way across the US for the tour’s concluding 12 dates. We have 5 pairs of tickets AND a vinyl copy of JAMC’s recent release, Damage and Joy, to award to 5 of you.

I live in upstate NY and would love to go to the NY show!!! My husband might be the band’s #1 fan. We’ve never seen a live show but we have Psychocandy LP framed!

  • Jay Vettese

I’d love to see JAMC at EMOS in Austin TX, classic band in a classic venue!

  • Satellite Farm

Would love to catch JAMC in Atlanta again, just like I did last year, and every other time they’ve played my fair city 🙂 I’ve even taken Monday off from work because I guarantee my voice is gonna be horse from. singing along to all the songs. In my book JAMC kills it live, each and every time! I even requested via messenger if they’d ever consider dusting of “Virtually Unreal” and playing it in Atlanta. Fits perfectly with the “state of the union”, so to speak.

I’d love to see JAMC again; my first (and last since) time seeing them was in 1994-95 (?) when they were touring with Mazzy Star. While I know I won’t get to see Hope perform Sometimes Always with them, I’d LOVE to see them in Denver after 20+ years!

I would LOVE to see The Jesus & Mary Chain again! 29 years ago this Autumn, I bumped into Jim Reid at Reckless Records, and again in a shop on Haight St, in San Francisco during the Darklands tour. At Reckless, I was buying the Darklands 12” single, looked up, and there were Jim Reid and Douglas Hart! I have loved the band since ‘86, but missed seeing them in California in his tour. Would love to see them in Asbury Park, NJ!

The Jesus & Mary Chain have always made music that I connected with. Their new music continues the trend. I would love to attend their concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ. The venue is close to my home and I always have a fun, memorable night when I go there. I’m sure the Jesus & Mary Chain will do a legendary performance at the club… and I want to say I was there.

I’d like to see them in Boston. I’ve been a fan since “darklands” from the album of the same name was Charles Laquidara’s “Big Mattress song of the week” on ‘bcn my senior year in high school. Good times, and I bought both their records by the end of that week.

  • Gary Pawlowicz

Denver, CO to share a THIRD time seeing the great Jesus and mary Chain this year. Introducing my 16 year son to them has been one of the highlights of our shows we’ve been to together

  • Damian Craig

    MEMPHIS!!!
I’d love the chance to see JAMC again! I haven’t been to one of their shows since 1992 and this time around I could take my daughter and let her witness firsthand one of the hugely influential bands in my life.

  • Alexandro Correa

Austin, Texas & the reasons are simple. It would be my first time watching live JAMC. 2nd, the album will be another jewel to my humble record collection. 3rd, the venue will be at Emo’s which would make it an intimate & personal experience to everyone who is attending. 4th, it’s about 3 miles from where I live which would be pretty cool. 5th, sharing the pics I take with you guys. 6th, thx for the opportunity & let’s rock’n’roll.

  • Lonnie Locascio

Houston, TX … Been following them since the beginning. 🙂

  • Stephen Slaybaugh

Where: NYC. Why: Because I lost my virginity to Psychocandy.

  • Bane Rock

ATLANTA!! The first time I saw JAMC was in Norfolk VA on March 1, 1990. A little known band at the time named Nine Inch Nails opened for them! Still have my ticket stub! I paid $10! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/906544e003fe70404ce87e51b639df1f59450bc9c76a981cb4ed08a97fb8a240.jpg

  • Stacy Prestien LaVoy

Denver! Always had a crush on Jim Reid – Maybe I still do. Would love to see them again!

  • Jose M

Baltimore – this is probably the first time they’re playing Baltimore so it’s pretty special for me. Hope to win and take my best friend who is also a huge fan!

  • Cindy

Playstation Theater NY – My mom is 80 and my dad is 85. We all love Jim and William! NY is on my dad’s bucket list, so I’d love to cross that off his list and treat them to a trip. I would take my mom to the show since she wanted to go with me last time in May, but I wasn’t able to take her.

  • darbypsnm

    NYC
    Been a fan since ’88.
Couldn’t see them on the May tour in MN as I was recovering from stage IV cancer surgeries on May 2nd.
Cancer free at the moment, but there is an 80 percent it will return.

  • Tara Adams

NY, NY – I’ve been a fan for 28 years; I can’t get through the day without listening to JAMC; I’ve converted my co-workers into JAMC fans; they’re my all-time favorite band; I just named my new car “Jim Reid” & that’s also going on the new license plate.
