UK Vinyl Video:
The Maginot Band, “Veiled Clock”

‘Tis the season to be jolly…but for some, it’s a time of reflection and introspection, and there’s nothing wrong with that—as long as you’re enjoying it with a glass of wine with a belly full of festive goodies.

The Maginot Band, a new band from Scotland, released their impressive debut EP “Peace and Quiet” this year and are ending the year with “Veiled Clock,” their own version of a Christmas single. “Veiled Clock” has a melancholic feel that harks back to a late ’60s indie sound, complete with festive bells and Fleet Foxes-esque vocals, tinged with Beach Boys-style harmonies.

The video suits this Christmas-y feel, with a heavy dose of nostalgia; old stock footage of children playing in the snow and making snowmen, paired with scenes of ration lines, armies marching, and the devastation of war—which sounds a little heavy for this time of year, but somehow it works. The music and the images inspire hope and remind us that, although there’s still horror in this world as we know all too well, there will forever be the innocence of youth.

Phew! Now would someone please pass the brandy? Merry Christmas everyone!
