The Single Girl: The Caulfield Beats, “Garage Electronics Vol. I” EP

After a video and free track release, The Caulfield Beats finally released their debut EP “Garage Electronics Vol. I” this week. Their debut is a quirky and strange journey into the minds of these three East London-based electronic crossover kids.

The first thing that comes to mind is the 90s. The resurgence of 90s fashion and pop has been especially popular in the last few years but The Caulfield Beats are channeling the less obvious elements here, especially on “glitch::glitch::flame.”

Computer culture geeks will enjoy the subtle sound bites and clear references to torrenting culture in the music, which the band have stated they’ve been influenced by melodically. There’s a real DIY dance party feel about the EP evident in the first half, but they change the pace a little with “Violence” and “dust|bowl,” which have more of a club vibe, kind of like The Whitest Boy Alive on acid.

“Garage Electronics Vol. I” is a brilliant retro dance journey and will certainly have your head nodding and body grooving by the end.
