“Vinyl sales were bigger in 2014 than they have been for the past 20 years and depending on who you ask, it could just be a giant gimmick, or a last ditch effort by the record companies to revive album sales. Neil Young recently called it a fashion statement because most of the time, when people claim the vinyl sounds much better, they are actually just listening to the CD masters pressed onto records. That being said, here are 10 of the weirdest most gimmicky vinyl records.”

“Twenty-somethings everywhere are foregoing convenient digital versions of songs for old school LPs, echoing their parents’ music preference from decades ago. Northwest senior Jessi Johannes initially became interested in records because of her parents’ collection. ‘My parents have had cases and cases (of records) in our basement for the longest time,” she said. “And I wanted to listen to them, so I had to get a record player. So I ended up getting one when I came to college.’”

Queen Forever Vinyl Box Set To Be Released: “The original 36 track 2 CD Queen Forever release will now be made available as a strictly limited 4 LP vinyl box set which includes an additional 12” single bonus disc exclusive to the set featuring a special William Orbit mix of the only recently heard Freddie Mercury track ‘Let Me In Your Heart Again.’”

“Elektron Music Machines, the Swedish manufacturer of synthesizers, samplers, and drum machines, has announced a new undertaking: the record label Elektron Grammofon. The Elektron Grammofon imprint will be the home for 12″ vinyl records by artists using Elektron instruments. The releases will be limited to 300 copies and all profits will go to charity.”
