Czech Company, Pressing Hits for Years on Vinyl, Finds It Has Become One: “Instead of getting rid of the old equipment and moving CD-making machines into their space — as most music production companies around the world did in the late 1980s and early ’90s — Mr. Pelc kept only enough machines running to meet the dwindling demand, moving the rest into storage and cannibalizing their parts as needed. “Frankly, if someone had told me back then that vinyl would return, I wouldn’t have believed it,” he said.”

This new record label is pushing coloured vinyl to the limit: “Contrary to popular opinion, Gmucs believes coloured vinyl delivers better sound. ‘Chemically, the color formulas are better, allowing for better flow in the plates which equals better sound quality in the product.‘”

Bob Marley Vinyl LP Boxset Released To Celebrate His 70th Birthday: “Pressed onto 180gram vinyl, the standard box set is modelled on a Zippo lighter and will be accompanied by The Complete Island Recordings: Collector’s Edition version, housed in a numbered, velvet-lined metal box containing all 11 LPs and a 70th anniversary slip mat and two photos in glassine envelopes.”

Laser cut your own vinyl records: “[Amanda Ghassaei] has created an awesome hack for making your own vinyl records using a laser cutter from an MP3 file. Her excellent hack uses a Processing sketch that converts a digital audio file into a vector graphics file, which is then burned onto vinyl using a laser cutter.”

The future of vinyl: Music as lifestyle, “A quarter of young adults buy records they never listen to, a survey of British music fans discovered last year. Some might take this as baffling or pretentious behavior, but the future of vinyl may rest on its ability to find selling points beyond its basic function as a music format.”

Songbyrd Record Cafe, A music lover’s paradise: “In Adams Morgan, I visited a new bar, stopped by a record store, checked out an upcoming concert venue, ate one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, and listened to Action Bronson’s latest album at a public listening station. Normally, cramming all this into one night would require multiple Metro trips, but I managed to do it all within not just one neighborhood, but one venue—Songbyrd Music House and Record Cafe.
