Hanover, NH | The Records Store Icon: One writer explores a Hanover store and the owner that’s made it a third space. Every first-year Dartmouth student inevitably runs late to a Molly’s dinner by discovering the records store on Main Street. Time easily flies by as they get lost in the various pop artist prints, Dr. Seuss stickers and old 90s records. The rpmNH Records and Posters store’s owner is a man who wears many hats: storyteller, geologist, artist and longtime resident of Hanover, Brian Smith. The shop initially started off selling hundreds of DVDs weekly in the fall of 2003. By 2010, DVD and CD sales were dropping, which led Smith to expand to selling records and posters. He has designed items unique to the store, such as making the “Welcome” signs for every incoming class to display in local town shops.

Portland, OR | Terry Currier Announces Plans to Sell Music Millennium: The owner of the storied East Burnside retailer says he’ll work with the new owner during a transitional period. Terry Currier, who has owned and operated Music Millennium for 42 years, is looking for a successor. In a message shared on Music Millennium’s social media accounts Tuesday, Currier wrote that he is looking to sell the store and possibly the building—or to sell the business separately and execute a long-term lease with the new owner. “Rest assured, I’m good with working with the future owner during a transitional period, educating them on just how we make Music Millennium tick,” Currier wrote. He also noted that developers have approached him about buying the building, which sits on East Burnside Street at the edge of the Laurelhurst neighborhood, and he’s turned them all down.

London, UK | Record Store Day 2026: Gold Radio’s picks from your local record shop. While Gold Radio does its best to spin anything you might want to hear, sometimes you have to go straight to the source and put a record on yourself. And if your shelves are lacking in a few areas, Record Store Day can be an excellent opportunity to remedy that. Established in 2008 to support the culture of independent record shops, the event is helped by artists who make special, often limited edition, releases to help get people out and about and visiting their local outlets. As for what you might want to buy from this year’s selection, we’ve got you covered.

Parramatta, AU | Against the stream: Record store rides vinyl revival. It’s natural for trends to go in and out of style. Low-rise skinny jeans, permed mullets and frozen yoghurt shops are a few honourable mentions that bob up and down on the culturally-acceptable-scale. However, those trends pale in comparison to the catastrophic fall and victorious rise of the record. Beatdisc Records in Parramatta has been western Sydney’s go-to destination for new and used vinyl, CDs and cassettes for 30 years—battling through the streaming-induced lull and now thriving on the vinyl revival. “Beatdisc Records has been here for 31 years now. Peter Curnovic has owned it for nearly 20 of those years,” explained Store Manager Tom Houlahan, who has worked there for 17 years.

Jackson, MS | Suspect sought in downtown Jackson comic book shop burglary: Police are searching for a suspect who burglarized Offbeat, a popular comic book and vinyl record store in downtown Jackson, on Saturday night. Surveillance video captured the suspect smashing the glass with a chunk of asphalt to break into the store. Philip Rollins, the owner of Offbeat, expressed his dismay at the incident. “To experience this, it’s disheartening. When I got the call last night, I was just like, ‘Well, OK. Here we go,'” Rollins said. The suspect left behind a large piece of asphalt used to break the glass and a bag covered in blood, indicating he cut himself on the broken glass. Capitol Police were already on the scene investigating when Rollins arrived. Rollins reported that the burglar stole a significant amount of merchandise from the shop, which serves as a cultural hub for alternative music, art, and comics.

Buena Park, CA | A new year, a new spin for OC Record Show: The OC Records Show kicked off the new year with a packed event at the UFCW Union Hall in Buena Park, drawing millennials and Gen Z shoppers hunting for old favorites and new vinyl to add to their collections. Carly Dinh, who recently started collecting records, attended her first vinyl expo and said she was excited to find her own picks. “My uncle was into records as well and he’s got a really big collection, but he doesn’t want to share,” Dinh said. “So I’m like, OK, let me see what I can find.” Vendors said the crowd came in strong from the start. Buffy and Phillip Guerrero, who run Far West Record Supply, said it was busy as soon as the doors opened. “It’s overwhelming. We’ve been super busy from the moment the doors open, but it’s really great to be back in the new year…”

Yorkshire, UK | 9 must-visit record fairs coming to Yorkshire this month—plus the best nearby record shops. If you’re the type of person who still gets a thrill from the faint smell of old paper and wax, then February is looking like your busiest month of the year so far. While digital streaming might be the easiest way to hear a tune, nothing quite beats the physical hunt through the crates; that specific, meditative rhythm of flipping through hundreds of LPs in search of the one that’s been missing from your shelf for years. …From the echoing halls of our most historic indoor markets to the sleek, modern foyers of city-centre cinemas, the travelling circus of rare pressings and bargain bins is about to hit the road. It’s a chance to step away from the algorithm and actually hold the music in your hands before you buy it.
