TVD Recommends:
The Front Bottoms at
the Beat Kitchen, 11/9

If you have any love for the early punk style, garage band, mix tape, one mic recordings like I do, then you better take two minutes to discover The Front Bottoms. This New Jersey duo has the roots and sound of ’90s pop-punk with no need for the driving electric guitar of that era. They instead, swap it out for just simple drums and an acoustic guitar.

Gaining a national fan base, and attempting to spread out from their New Jersey following, The Front Bottoms’ music is beginning to find its way into everything. They are currently being heard in more than 30 radio ads everywhere from Philadelphia to Chicago. As the music spreads, so does, as this TVD writer will call it, the Front Bottoms feeling.

Their new music video and single “Flashlight”, is a true testament of what this band is doing. Showing us their usual practice conditions and how, no matter what, they let the music shine through. They bring to the table an overwhelming sense of fun and care-free, that many musicians today seem to have forgotten is one of the essential ingredients for great music.

Songs from their new self titled album, straight from the NJ underground record label, Bar-None Records, can be heard all over the internet. Songs like “Maps” and “The Beer” are steadily becoming known, and singles like “Swimming Pool” are beginning to get YouTube attention as well as press such as All Music Guide, and Alternative Press.

It’s here on The Vinyl District however, that you can quote this line: the Front Bottoms are unmatched in their sound and talent. Maybe not for song complexity, but just for pure and proper music that invokes great feelings and can’t help but to make you want to just keep pressing replay.

While this is only a sample of what these NJ lads have to offer, there is plenty more Front Bottoms music available. With so much great music, it is not surprising to hear that these gentlemen are lighting up the country and have had promising shows already, with more to come. They kicked off this tour with the CMJ New Music Festival in NY, played with The Flaming Lips in VA, and will be ending this tour with River City Extension on Nov 23.

Fear not Midwest fans, you are in luck! The Front Bottoms will be hitting the Beat Kitchen (2100 West Belmont Avenue) on November 9. Tickets are $10, through Ticketweb, and the doors open at 7:30.
