Scattered Trees
raise money for their upcoming record
using PledgeMusic

In the world of crowd-funding, sites like Kickstarter and IndieGoGo are making it easier for interactions between musicians and fans to benefit everyone. New to my radar is PledgeMusic, and one of their current campaigns just happens to be from Chicago indie-rockers, Scattered Trees.

Raising money to record a follow-up to the incredible 2011 release, Sympathy, Scattered Trees has already reached 35% of their goal with 29 days left.

At the beginning of April, the band headed to Toronto, Canada, to record with producer Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Los Campesinos!). Along with video updates of the recording sessions and early streams of the new tracks, every level of the fundraising campaign is loaded with worthwhile incentives.

While a minimum pledge of $10 will get you a download of the new record, for $35 you get the exclusive vinyl LP, signed by the band. As of writing this, there are 37 spots left to get in on that pledge.

If that isn’t enough incentive for you, Scattered Trees has opted to send 7% of all the money received after their goal has been met to Prevent Cancer.

Since the release of Sympathy, the group has begun to take on a new shape with a more democratic writing process and more positive subject matter. I’m looking forward to some really great thing from this release, so be sure to keep your eyes on Scattered Trees in the coming months.
