TVD Recommends:
The Handsome Family
at Saki Records, 9/13

Saki Records is bringing us another amazing in-store performance this week with Chicago’s own Gothic Americana duo, The Handsome Family. Playing a selection of their favorite tragic ballads from the last four centuries, the husband and wife collaboration has been writing country and bluegrass music with gothic fiction themes for the last twenty years.

After the Saki in-store on Thursday, The Handsome Family will be playing their catalog classics as well as previewing tracks off of their upcoming LP at the Mayne Stage on Friday, 9/14.

Over the last two decades, Brett and Rennie Sparks have had their influential alternative country tracks covered by a number of artists from Andrew Bird to The Sadies. Grab all of the details about both of the upcoming shows and where you can purchase some incredible Handsome Family vinyl, below.

Released on Carrot Top Records in 2009, you can pick up a vinyl copy of The Handsome Family’s latest studio album, Honey Moon, in person at this week’s shows or online for just $11. You can also grab the 7” which showcases their largest selling single from 1996, “Drunk by Noon,” and a cover of Jim Reeves’ “The Blizzard” for $5.

The free acoustic show starts at 6:00 PM at Saki Records – 3176 W. Fullerton Ave. The Handsome Family will be joined at Saki by Chicago singer Daniel Knox.

After the acoustic in-store at Saki, you can catch the duo for a more traditional show over at the Mayne Stage (1328 Morse Ave) at 9:00 PM. Supporting The Handsome Family at the 18+ show will be Bloodshot Records artist, Jon Langford. Tickets are available before the show through Ticketweb for $19, and at the door before the show for $23.
