TVD Ticket Giveaway: Sweetlife Festival
at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 4/28

With the impending change of seasons looming in the air, it’s hard not to think about the summer months that will soon be upon us. With summer comes warmer weather, and, of course, an all-new array of artists and bands making their way to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md.

Kicking off the Merriweather summer concert series is the third annual Sweetlife Food and Music Festival, taking place this Saturday, April 28th.

Sweetlife is sponsored by Sweetgreen, a Washington, DC-based restaurant chain that uses healthy, organic foods from local farms in its restaurants. The festival, a celebration of music, food, and eco-consciousness, will feature a wide variety of artists performing on two stages. Among the musicians set to perform are The Shins, fun., Kid Cudi, Avicii, Fitz and the Tanstrums, The Delta Spirit, Explosions in the Sky, and A$AP Rocky.

While the line-up is impressive, Sweetlife isn’t solely about the music; in addition to taking in great live performances, concertgoers will also have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of healthy and delicious organic foods provided by local eco-friendly eateries and restaurants. This year, Sweetlife has partnered with DC Central Kitchen and will raise money to support their charitable mission to use food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities.

We here at TVD want to make your life a whole lot sweeter. For your chance to win a pair of tickets to Sweetlife, comment below and tell us your favorite summer concert experience.

I’m going to go with seeing Paul McCartney in New York last July.

A winner will be chosen on Thursday, April 26th, at noon.

My favorite summer concert experience had to be seeing Junip at a small venue in Chicago.  The venue is a place only true music locals know about – it made it a real intimate experience filled with only true music lovers…and all for only $10! I highly recommend the group if you haven’t heard of them!

My favorite summer concert experience was at an outdoor Black Eyed Peas Concert in Quebec, Canada. People started to wait in line at 9 in the morning, and you could see the buildup from one of the main streets. When it came time for the concert, so many people turned up they had to put some of them in the overflow section. The best part, though, was that it was all for free.

Dancing to Brazilian singer E O Tchan in Recife, Brasil during Carnaval.  This is the ultimate summer concert experience.  Fresh fruit caipirinhas, fried street food, capoeria demonstrations, sweltering heat alternating with light rain, and people of all ages dancing and singing in the streets for days.

When I was growing up, HFStival was THE summer concert event. It usually fell around May right when most kids were getting out of school, and always featured an eclectic line-up of bands. My favorite was probably 2005 when Foo Fighters and Coldplay headlined. Coldplay were incredibly humble, giving shout-outs to WHFS for being one of the first American radio stations to interview them, and inbetween songs during the Foo Fighters set, Dave Grohl would tell stories about driving to Ocean City and hanging in DC. Awesome times.

My favorite summer concert experience…  probably my first ever Warped Tour way back in high school. That was my first big event and it was so fun seeing all those pop punk/alternative bands that I loved back in the day. Seeing bands like Mae, Yellowcard and The Starting Line… ah those were the days.

Totally agree, my favorite summer concert experience was definitely seeing Paul McCartney in DC in 2009. I am a huge fan but my mom, who was actually at the Ed Sullivan show for The Beatles, is an even bigger fan. Seeing her light up at the show was the best feeling, she was like a whole new woman!
