TVD Ticket Giveaway: G. Love and Special Sauce at the 9:30 Club, 11/16

Garret Dutton, aka G. Love from G. Love and Special Sauce, is not new to the music industry. He first gained success through the 1994 release of his self-titled, debut album. The album, released by Epic Records, was certified Gold thanks to hits like “Cold Beverage” and “Baby’s Got Sauce.”

Following the success of his debut, G. Love released more albums, including his genre-defining 2006 album, Lemonade. Fusing hip-hop and blues, the Philadelphia native’s Lemonade brought him sweet success on the Billboard 100, debuting at number 39.

G. Love and Special Sauce are currently touring from coast to coast, playing shows all over the country. This Friday, November 16, G. Love and his bandmates who make up the Special Sauce, Timo Shanko and Houseman, are playing at the 9:30 Club, and we’re giving away a pair of tickets!

Temporarily straying away from his comfort zone, G. Love’s most recent album, Fixin’ To Die shows an open, more emotional side of the musician. Scott Avett of The Avett Brothers, who produced the album, says, “This is the record we all knew he should make and he could make, but again, he had to open himself to the core to make it.”

When asked about Fixin’ To Die, Dutton states, “It’s a nod back and a step forward. It’s a return to the roots of what made me G. Love in the first place. The music I fell in love with and learned as a teenager, which is such a developmental time in one’s life, but especially pivotal in your music life.”

In addition to being a sweet, summer drink, lemonade is also the alternative hip-hopper’s best-selling album. For a chance to win a pair of tickets to this Friday’s show at the 9:30 Club, leave a comment with your favorite song that includes a drink in its title.

My pick? “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes. (Popularized, however, by Jimmy Buffett.)

The winner will be chosen at noon this Wednesday, November 14. Tickets are still available.
