TVD Ticket Giveaway: The Flaming Lips at Merriweather Post Pavilion, 10/4

In April of this year, The Flaming Lips released their newest all-original studio album The Terror. The thematic collection of spacey noise rock tunes with heavy-hearted lyrical content follow the Lips’ fondness for gigantic and engaging rock operas.

Further expanding what the modern definition of psychedelia is, the effort moves in waves of obscure production separated by moments of emotional clarity. As the band continues to wade into the waters of refining their sound, this album extends itself to be intensely personal, bringing with it plenty of weight to throw around.

They’ll be bringing much of their new album to the Merriweather Post Pavilion on October 4, and we’ve got tickets to give away.

Speaking of modern psychedelia, 2010 breakout Tame Impala will be supporting. The past few years has seen the group of young’ns skyrocketing through the Australian circuit and then making a name overseas. Their artsy take on pop rock eventually caught the attention of Wayne Coyne, who promptly had them featured on the 2012 collaboration album Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. They’re currently two albums deep and have a resume heavy with awards and critical praise.

So, in homage to the big-picture attitude of the Flaming Lips, the way to put your name in the running for the tickets is to tell us your favorite concept album in the comments below.

My answer is Dirty Projectors’ The Getty Address, so you can’t use that one.

The winner will be chosen at 3pm on Thursday, October 3. Tickets are still available.
