TVD Presents at the
U Street Funk Parade: The Electric Cowbell Sound System at
Den of Thieves, 5/3

Well DC, by now we’re certain word of this Saturday’s inaugural U Street Funk Parade has hit your ears and we’re pleased to announce that TVD’s part of the day’s official programming with an event curated by our friends at Electric Cowbell Records—a FREE afternoon of all vinyl sets by some of Washington DC’s most eclectic, global groove thumpers.

Den of Thieves will be our location from noon until 5PM on Saturday with drink specials, a stack of new, minty-fresh vinyl to give away, and a stellar DJ line up which includes:

12:00PM – DJ Crown Vic | Electric Cowbell Records label boss and TVD editor-at-large spins selections of “weird world” music. Vintage analog grooves pull up to the bumper of a shiny new day.

DJ Crown Vic, aka Jim Thomson, runs the Electric Cowbell record label, promotes concerts as Multiflora Productions, and started the Independent Grand vinyl web-shop with partner label Names You Can Trust. He’s a founding member of both GWAR and Bio Ritmo.

1PM – DJ Steven Swann (Fatback DC) | Steven explores funk, soul, disco, reggae, Afrobeat and whatever sounds neat. He was one of the main ingredients in the DC-based Fatback DJ collective that took place at Liv nightclub in Washington, DC. People came to get down, and were always prepared to work up a sweat.

2PM – Sir Ramases (Afro Ritmo Records) | Sir Ramases, aka Ramases Harnett, is the founder of a research collective called of Afro Ritmo records. He’s a worldly vinyl archivist/researcher for various entities, as well as former GM/radio dj/audio engineer of KTUH Radio in Hawaii.

He’s been a vinyl collector for about 15 years. You can catch him djing under the name Sir Ramases where he traverses the world with some of the funkiest, soul-reaching and ankle-bending rarities from Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, and beyond.

3PM – YALLA | YALLA is a Washington, DC-based DJ duo composed of DJ Farrah and Cousin P. Their eponymous monthly dance night at Saint-Ex features choubi, debke, and modern sounds from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as post-punk, hip-hop, and minimal techno.

While the two have only been spinning together since November 2013, they have frequently collaborated on events, concert flyers, music, and video over the last five years.

4PM – Nucleus Bros | Nucleus Bros are a DJ/Percussionist double trouble all-vinyl team composed of Rob the Appreciator and Ty Hussell.

They are always all vinyl with the fun of live percussion beats alongside soul, disco, boogie, Latin, Brazilian, African, Jamaican, and global sounds.

Den of Thieves is located at 2005 14th Street, NW at the intersection of 14th and U Streets. Entry for the event is FREE.
